STAND-BY for some news 14 April !!!! Update CANvention 50 Hotel Reservations for the Marriott .
From Mike England via BCCA Facebook.....
NOTE: They are working on the next set of blocked rooms and hopefully rooms for Saturday will soon get added:
We are currently at 81% of our blocked room nights. We have 1227 nights booked of the 1522 in our block. Here is the breakdown and current status as of a few minutes ago.
Date Block Booked Available Percent
Sun, Sep 6 30 19 11 63%
Mon, Sep 7 87 76 11 87%
Tue, Sep 8 246 169 77 69%
Wed, Sep 9 296 251 45 85%
Thu, Sep 10 346 276 70 80%
Fri, Sep 11 346 265 81 77%
Sat, Sep 12 171 171 0 100%
As you can see the 171 room nights blocked for Saturday 9/12 has already been booked. Because of this, any reservation in our block that includes the Saturday night stay (that has zero nights available) will be rejected as no available rooms remaining.
There are two options for you at this point.
Option 1 is to book your stay through Friday 9/11 and write a special request that you want to add Saturday 9/12 when it becomes available.
Option 2 (preferred method) is to book the rooms outside of our block, not using the published link. Instead, use the Marriott.com site, This will be at the rack rate. Do not fear, there is plenty of time to change to our block after we get additional rooms added to our block.
Reservations made with a Credit Card are not charged until the first night of your stay.
I hope this clears up any questions you may have.

Re: Update CANvention 50 Hotel Reservations for the Marriott .
Thanks, just made my reservation(Wed-Fri) and they are sold out for Saturday night. Hoping that some rooms will open up for Saturday night.
I am thinking,....if I don't check out and can not be reached on Saturday, they won't go in my room and throw my crap on the street? Well, it's a plan, maybe not a good one, but it's a plan.
I will work on a better " plan B" as I get closer to the event.
Cheers

Re: Update CANvention 50 Hotel Reservations for the Marriott .
Can you not just book the Saturday at the regular non BCCA rate and if the Bcca gets more room nights just switch to the BCCA rate and if not you can always cancel the Saturday night. I have done this before. Make sure they keep you in the same room if it has different reservation numbers. Re: Update CANvention 50 Hotel Reservations for the Marriott .
I spoke with Beer Dave last evening. Unfortunately the person he coordinates with is currently on the road. The hotel is fully aware of the situation and will unblock the next set of rooms once the point of contact returns. Please give it a little time. The rooms will eventually be opened back up again.
It is amazing how quickly the rooms have been booked. A great sign. The original blocked rooms were based on numbers from Milwaukee which was a great show. We are already ahead of those expectations. The BCCA has to be careful to not commit to a certain number of rooms to be left with unfilled rooms.
I will do my best to track the situation and keep others informed.

Re: Update CANvention 50 Hotel Reservations for the Marriott .
Here is an update. Thanks to Mike England from the CANvention committee......
CANvention 50 Marriott Hotel Update.
The Hotel reservations for CANvention 50 have been very strong and encouraging. We have met our room blocks for both Saturday and now Friday. There are currently no rooms available in our block (what we have contracted) for those days. Do not fear. We anticipated high demand and have language in our contract to add rooms.
The above illustrates the reason for releasing the Hotel Reservation information this early. More than 300 days or 10 months before the start of CANvention. We want to demonstrate that there is very high demand for our CANvention which we will leverage in our January meeting with the hotel.
We are now at 90% of our block.
Date Block Booked Available Progress
Sun, Sep 6 42 26 16 62%
Mon, Sep 7 122 102 20 84%
Tue, Sep 8 346 235 111 68%
Wed, Sep 9 364 346 18 95%
Thu, Sep 10 399 381 18 95%
Fri, Sep 11 346 346 0 100%
Sat, Sep 12 172 172 0 100%
The CANvention team is working with the Marriott to secure additional rooms. Unfortunately, this will not happen over-night. The Marriott has contracts (read that room obligations) with other groups. So, it might be during our January on-site PreCon meeting with the Marriott before we get all the rooms added that we want. The good news is that the Marriott has over 900 rooms.
If you have not yet made your reservations, you may book through Thursday and in special requests, mention that you want Friday and/or Saturday when available. Also, our room block is split between King and Double Queen beds. Some nights may not have your preferred room type. Again, please mention in your special request your desired room type.
Please, please be patient. There is no need to contact CANvention Team Members, BCCA Officers or the BCCA Office at this time. We are already doing all that we can.
We will announce when we have added additional rooms to our block or if we need to add an overflow hotel.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Salute,
Mike

Re: Update CANvention 50 Hotel Reservations for the Marriott .
Thanks! Curious though....why were only 1/2 as many rooms initially reserved for Saturday over Friday? (172 vs 346) Sorry if I can't remember exactly how things normally play out, but is Saturday that day where people poke around in the morning but it is really just breaking everything down and everybody is gone by noon?

@Rand Usually folks seem to be checking out to get on the road. I'd love it if we could have just as many stick around and attend the banquet on Saturday evening.....Rand wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 10:08 pm

Re: Nov 14 Update CANvention 50 Hotel Reservations for the Marriott .
Keith is correct. The CANvention planing team keeps a lot of stats and we have long been watching the trend of overall attendance vs. people who attend the banquet. This information helps us predict (guess) the number of room nights we need in a contract for any particular night. If we over commit and don’t fill the contracted block, then we eat the cost of the room nights that were not reserved.
Trying to predict the number of people (room nights) who will stay at the Grand Marriott in St. Louis, on 9/12/20, in June of 2018, 27 months before the event is basically just a WAG.
Hope this explains the reason why fewer room nights were contracted for Saturday night.

Looks like both Friday and Saturday are now all booked. Guess you need to book Wed and Thursday and request Friday if/when a room is available.

Yes, book what you can now, every reservation we have will demonstrate to the Marriott that we have the numbers and need more rooms.

I just spent an hour trying every way to get a room. I was able to get a reservation for Tuesday only, and three agents couldn't do any more than that. Inside or outside the BCCA block, no dice.

I'm good. I'll think of this reservation, for only the first of 5 days there, as staking my claim. I'll trust The Powers to get this rectified, and inform us when to do what to get our reservations straightened out.

Does anybody know if anymore rooms will be available for Canvention? If not, is there a waiting list for rooms that may become available due to cancellations or the like? I have been planning on going but have not been able to get a reservation for the host hotel. Any info would be appreciated.

@Roy Rogers We (BCCA) have a Board of Directors meeting virtually this weekend. As of this moment, there have been no shifts or changes because of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. The BCCA will continue to assess the impacts and do what is best for the health and welfare of the membership......Roy Rogers wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 1:39 pm Any news as the 50th being canceled due to the Covid 19 Pandemic?
