I made a list of the $1000+ flat tops in the original book. I am always curious which cans are rarer than others, and its not always easy to discern. Some labels are seen often but never in high grade (think Steinbrau etc), others are virtually never seen at all in any grade (think Triangle). Some cans are thought to be unique but fortunately the only one known is in great condition; some unique cans are well off-grade. The purpose of this thread is to learn more about what is really out there and to help me and others better understand how many of certain labels exist. Here’s the list with my initial comments of what I know. Have fun...
28-7 ABC Ale - seen maybe two, neither as good as the book.
29-35 Alpen Glow Ale - seen two or three of these, never in good condition
31-32 A-1 Ale - seen plenty of these and owned a good one awhile back
31-40 Arrow Ale - seen less than a handful, never better than the can pictured
32-1 Arrow Ale - seen two, one is pictured, the other not as good
32-17 Atlas Yorkshire Ale - seen two or three, all grade 2+ or lower
32-(32-31) Autocrat - seen a few dumper but never a good one of either label
32-(33-35) Badger - own one in 1-1+, and have seen many - rare in perfect shape
35-(17-19). Bay State Beer - own 17 near perfect, never seen other except in bad shape
YELLOW BEERS ARE PLENTIFUL WITH A HANDFUL COMPLETELY ON GRADE AND MANY OTHERS IN GOOD SHAPE. THE SILVER BEER IS ELUSIVE AND MAY NOT BE KNOWN ON GRADE
35-22 B&B Beer - have never seen this can in any condition except in book
36-33 Better Foods - have never seen this can in any condition except in book
ONE OR TWO ON GRADE, POSSIBLY OTHERS IN LESSER CONDIION
37-(15-18). Black Dallas - seen plenty of each, but rarely in great condition. Don’t know enough about the variance to determine rarity
39-34 Blue & Gold - only seen once in dumper condition
40-37 Bond Hill Deluxe - have never seen this can before
41-11 Brau Haus Ale - only seen one and it was off-grade
41-13 Brau Haus Half & Half - never seen this one before
42-5 Brown Derby - seen one or two in dumper, I own the pictured can. One additional can is located under an Associated paper label can
43-18 Buckingham Ale - seen three or four, never perfect although one 1/1+
4-5 KNOWN ON GRADE, PLUS A HANDFUL OF OTHERS OF OFF GRADE
44-26 Budweiser Bock - plenty of these around
47-(34-35). Cab Cream Ale - brown label is rarer, both seen occasionally in top condition
48-28 Centlivre - seen dumpers, but never another as good as the book
THIS CAN IS RARE BUT AT LEAST 4-6 ARE KNOWN ONGRADE
49-23 Chief - dumpers are around, never seen on as good as book
49-30. Class Pilsner - never seen ongrade, have seen 2-4 off grade.
ONLY ONE ON GRADE IS KNOWN, AND ITS GOOD BUT NOT PERFECT
49-(33-34) Label is not rare, a handful ongrade were found, I own the LA can which is much harder to find on grade
50-(17-18). Columbia - have seen 17 off grade twice, 18 off grade 1-2 times
51-(26-27). Copenhagen - Seen only a few in 40 years, once in 1/1+ or better. No idea if one brewery or another is harder
51-30 Coronado - seen several dumpers, but never an ongrade example
52-(11-12) Cremo - have never seen 11, and only one or two of 12 in off grade
52-(15-17). Croft Pilgrim - 2-4 of 15 in generally off grade; have never seen 16, 17 was just sold in an auction as is 1 of 3 I have seen.
53-24 Dawson Bock - not seen often, but doesn’t appear to be very elusive. I have one that I would like to sell
53-28 DeSoto - seen a handful but never as good as the one pictured
53-35 Dingle Bay - have only seen one on grade and that was Gene Judd’s - a few off-grade.
DAN MOREAN OWNS THE ONLY KNOWN GRADE ONE OR BETTER CAN BASED ON TODAY’S INTEL
54-15 Dobler Bock - seen this one about 4-5 times, only twice, as good as book.
58-(33-35). Edel Brau - only have seen the Ale one or two time, never seen either of the beers
59-(14-15). Eigenbrodt’s - the beer is commonly seen, often in good condition. Ale only have seen a couple in ongrade
60-(2-8) English Lad - own a good Ale and have seen many, Beer only have seen 2-3 times on grade
60-37 Esslinger Bock - seen one or two off grade and only the one pictured ongrade
61-12 Eureka - seen often off grade, rare in on grade, maybe 2-3. I had one prior.
61-(16-17) Excell - seen off grade reasonably often, formerly owned both in near 1+
62-(27-28) Faust - seen three or four total including a new 1+ that I formerly owned. A few rolled ones around too.
63-6 Feigenspan Bock - seen in dumper 5-6 times, on grade 3-4.
63-1 Finer Flavor - seen a handful of dumpers, but never one as good as book.
64-37 Fox deLuxe OI - seen one or two dumper, but never another on grade example
67-6 Four 4 Crowns - tall can. Have seen numerous dumpers, but never one ongrade
67-(27-28) - Grace Bro’s Ale - seen 3-4 dumpers, and one in grade 1- recently. G Judd
67-17 F&S Bock - plain can rarely seen. I have seen two, one good and one terrible.
68-15 Genesee 12 Horse Ale - seen often, but never perfect, have seen 2 in grade one or a little better
68-16 Genesee Light Ale - I own this can in A1+, have seen half dozen in less condition
68-25 Genesee Liebotschaner - never seen this can before in any grade, expect in book
ONE CONFIRMED IN REAL GOOD CONDITION, NO INTEL ON OTHERS
68-(26-27) Genesee Liebotschaner - have seen these two labels a handfull of times, but rarely on grade.
A COUPLE OF EACH KNOWN GRADE ONE OR BETTER
69-1 Germantown - I have seen three with one in grade one, the other two lesser.
69-(30-31). Gilt Edge - seen he OI can two or three times in bad cond. formerly owned the other can in A1+ but its the only one I ever saw that good
70-4 Glacier - seen less than six and never one even close to the one in the book.
72-18 Golden Armor - seen one or two off grade but never a good one
72-23 Golden Brau Bock - have seen a dozen of this can but only one in grade one or better
72-32 Golden Crown - seen one or two off grade, never an on grade example like book
73-(28-31) Golden Rod - seen only 3-4 of grade and have never seen any ongrade
28-13 Gunthers Ale - saw one can off grade, never on grade
78-18 Gunther Beer - have seen three or four on grade, a few dumpers
78-(29-30) Gunther Bock - have seen three or four on grade but never 1+
78-34 Hackers Ale - on eBay now in about grade 1-, never seen another...
83-11 Hollywood Ranch Market - have never seen this can on or off grade except in book.
ONE KNOWN ON GRADE - LIKELY OTHERS, BUT NONE KNOWN TO DATE
83-24 Hopfheiser - one known on grade, only seen two dumpers
83-(28-30) Horlucks - 28 have seen a dozen in grades 1-3; never seen 29 at all, own 30 in A1+
83-32 Hornung Cream Ale - never seen this can, but I own one A1+ from Stark
84 (1-2). Hornung Bock - seen 1 once in on grade, never in other condition. Own 2 in grade 1-ish
84-22 Hull Lager - have never seen this can outside of the one in the book
84-29 Humboldt - seem many dumper but find is rare in ongrade. I former had one in 1/1+
84-38 Ilsner - seen a few off grade and own one in 1- or 2+
85-9 - Imperial - seen a handful in off grade, never one better than 1-/2+
6-8 of these cans are know, but none on grade so far...
85-12. India VERY RARE CAN WITH ONLY ONE OR TWO KNOWN, TO DATE
85-32 Iron City - rare in book condition, only seen two in lesser shape.
UNDERSTAND THERE ARE 5-7 TOTAL, WITH ONE IN HIGH GRADE
87-5 Jax Ale - can is elusive in 1/1+ condition. Had one prior, probably have seen 6 or so in off grade
3-4 known in grade one, 1-2 maybe a little better, half dozen grade 2 or worse
87-31. Kent Ale - have seen a number of dumpers, but rare on grade. I have one in grade 1 or better.
A couple known in 1/1+ now and several dumpers too
88-3 Kings Taste - not rare in dumper form, but never seen one close to book condition
90-(25-27) Krueger Bock - have seen each in dumper half dozen times, a few in on grade around grade one.
AT LEAST FIVE KRUEGER’S BOCK CANS KNOWN IN GRADE ONE OR BETTER; AT LEAST ONE OF THE KRUEGER VARIETIES KNOW IN GRADE ONE, AND MAYBE MORE...
90-36 Krug - have seen four or five dumpers, and one in grade one, never another like book
91-(8-9). Leidig’ s - never have seen the German Style in any condition, the other have seen four or five with two near perfect
91-26 Liebmann’s XXX - never seen a dumper and never one better than book
9I-27 Liebmann’s OI - I own the pictured can, have only seen one other.
THREE EXAMPLES KNOWN, ALL GRADE 1- OR LESS.
91-(38-39) Lion Bock and Beer - never seen either in any form except book
91-40 Lisco - available widely in dumper condition but rarely in grade one. I had one prior.
92-1 LITTLE IMP - ONE ON GRADE EXAMPLE KNOWN, UNKNOWN NUMBER OF OTHER EXAMPLES
92-6 Log Cabin - seen 5 of these and 4 were in grade one or better. Occasionally in dumper
92-(16-17) Lubeck - have only seen a few of these on grade but know of others, and never a can from Toledo except the A1+ example I own.
92-(36,37,40) - Lucky Ale - seen 36 a few times and own one in grade one or better. Never seen 37, and I believe 40 is unique but I’ve never seen one.
93-(1-2). Lucky Ale - seen five or six of 1 in ongrade, never seen a 2 on or off grade
94-22 Manhattan Ale - seen a number of dumpers, but only one on grade than I owned prior. Have never seen another bock can outside of the one pictured.
94-(34-35). Marlin - have seen 34 a dozen times, but never better than mine at 1/1+. Seen 35 6-8 times and never as good as pictured.
100-(22-24). Monogram - seen 20 in dumper 2x, 21 never seen this one, seen 22 one time and never like the one in the book
103-5 Neuweiler’s Bock - seen three total, two on grade, and one dumper. The two on grade are both excellent grade one examples
103-8. New England Ale - never seen this one, or maybe I have as there are many dumper that all look the same as the others
103-9 - New England Beer - never seen another example outside the dumper in the book
103-(11-13). New Yorker - I own the set in the book, I have seen a few rub outs, one rolled can, and have never seen another half and half.
103-14 Niborg - been collecting 40 years and have never seen this can in any condition
103-(38-39) - NuDeal - widely available in dumper, formerly had one in 1-1+.
103-40 - NuGlobe - seen one or two dumpers, but never one like the book
104-(9-10) - Old Style - have seen two in ongrade, and plenty of dumpers
105-37. Old Dutch Bock - seen one in dumper, but never a good example
107-3 Old Gold - seen at least a dozen of this can in dumper and never one in 1+. Two or three in grade one
180-(4-5). Old St Louis - seen two Ales, one dumper one near perfect. Seen three or four beers with one near grade 1/1+
112-15 Palomar - seen a handful of dumpers, but never one better than 1-

113-(10&14) Peter Doelger Ale and Bock - seen plenty of Ales but never high grade, Seen two bocks, one great, the other faded badly

115-(37-38). Pilsen Brau - seen plenty on grade of 38, never seen 37 better than book although I have one grade one
116-(21-24). Poth’s - seen a few dumper and two on grade 21 and 22. Never seen a 23 and I own the only 24 in high grade that I have ever seen
116-37 Primo - seen three or four off-grade and two on grade. I owned one in grade one. Book is best I have seen
117-13 Progress - have seen a handful of dumpers, a handful of ongrade examples.
118-37 Ranch - have never seen this can in any condition other than the book.
SEVERAL EXAMPLES ARE KNOWN, BUT NONE PERFECT - BOOK APPEARS TO BE THE BEST ONE
119-(31-35). Red Top - seen a variety of dumpers of all, but only one or two on grade 31 and 33. Never seen 35 ongrade.
125-(25-27). Regal Amber - the red can is widely seen off grade, seen two times on grade. Have only seen one green can and it was off.
120-30 Regal India Ale - only seen this can once, and it was on RB site last week
122-34 Special R&H - seen two dumpers, and never an on grade example
123-27 Rheingold McSorley’s - seen three examples, one off grade, two about 1-/2+
124-(15-16) Rheingold - double bock I’ve seen six times, the Pale only twice both in good shape
124-(24-25) Rheinlander - have only seen this can two times, one dumper one in about grade one
125-10. Rishwain - widely available in dumper, never seen one as good as book.
125-(13-14). Roger Williams - seen two in dumper and never on grade except picture from Gene Judd’s collection
125-17 Rosalie - seen two or three dumpers, and the one in the book

128-20 Schaefer Bock - seen this can four times and two in good shape
132-(4-5) Schultz - seen a few dumper of each but never one on grade

135-(13-15). St Claire - 13 and 15 I have seen many time in dumper condition. I had 13 in A1+ prior, but never 14 or 15. I have never seen 14 at all in any condition
136-18 Steinbrau - widely seen in dumper, rare in high on grade - I have one 1/1+ and I have never seen better
136-21 Canadian Brand Cream Ale - I have never seen this can in any condition
137-(11-13). Storz Winterbru - widely available as dumpers, rare in high on grade. Same with 137-15 which I have seen in on grade 7-8 times
137-(32-34). Stroud - all rare, seen two or three times on grade each, and an equal number of dumpers
138-32 Tiger - only version I have ever seen is in book.
LIKELY A UNIQUE CAN, AND IN ON GRADE CONDITION
139-(18-21) - Town Club - have seen many in dumper cond and a handful in near perfect.
139-22 Town House - never seen an example of this other than book
139-23 - Triangle - never seen an example of this one other than book. EXTREMELY RARE LABEL ONLY KNOW OFF GRADE - 1-2 EXAMPLES
139-(34-36). Tommer’s Bock - Seen two of three dumpers an one each on grade. Seen three on grade of 36.
140-(18-19) Trump’s - have seen four or five dumpers and three or four on grade. Mine is grade one or a shade better and is the best I’ve seen in person.
143-34 Viking Draft - I have seen two of three on grade, but never a dumper - interesting?
6-8 OF THESE ARE KNOWN, WITH SOME DUMPERS AND SOME ON GRADE - RARE CAN FOR SURE
144-1 Waldorf Samson Ale - seen a few dumpers and a handful on grade. Not as rare as originally thought.
