So what will you be looking for at Canvention?

Post by John H. »

Ok, might as put out the word for what I'll be looking for. I'm searching for the round Hohenadel food tray. Second, the Cavalier tray advertising Hop Gold from the pacific northwest, been searching for one of them for a few years now, 50's Grace Bros cans that I don't have (too many to list, but if you've got some, I'll definitely be stopping by your room and/or table. Tap knobs, I'm looking for a Goldenrod, and the Indian Queen from Hohenadel. Also looking for the Hohenadel Alt Pilsner cone top. I also need the Esslinger Ale 12oz flatop with opening instructions. Got the cone & quart, but still looking for the flat. And while I'm on Esslinger, need the 2nd generation beer conetop and the 2nd generation ale flat and the matching quarts for both 2nd generation cans. Any bottles from brewers I collect (too many to list), and of course lit or unlit signs. Hope somebody there will have some stuff that I need. At any rate, tops on my list is just to have a great time and to catch up with old friends and acquaintances. See you all there!

I actually try to get a mix of cans: 8 oz flat top, a bock flat--or better tab, a crowntainer, a 16 oz flat top, then I look for any flat or cone that catches my eye. Later I focus on US gallons or 5L cans, beer bags, and breweriana from Congress, Senate, and 6 Select labels. All cans have to be clean and shiney.

John, Not exactly sure what you mean by round "food tray", but I did see a round Hohenadel tray at the St Louis Swap A Rama last weekend. Ed Papin had it. . I collect crowntainers if you have any for sale. If you don't know how to reach Ed, send me a private message and I will give you his phone number. FYI good Luck, Bill

Cone tops! New labels, variations and upgrades. More specifically a displayable dumper (and affordable) Apache. Hoping ABQ does for my SoCal cone variations what Portland did for adding Rainier alcohol variations (e.g. the ABC World's Gold Medal variations I need). I'll be the guy sitting on the floor with my USBC and my collection database looking through boxes of rust for that hidden gem!

Jax stuff, anything else New Orleans, and some nice regional rust. Oh, and some nice rusty OI's.

I am flying this time, so I will be keeping craft cans to a minimum.
Collector of fine rust, craft cans, and anything related to New Orleans area breweries past and present.

Unlikely I'll find the flats I'm missing from NJ in ABQ. Unless on a dealer's table, and I wouldn't have to leave my house to buy one of those since they'd be available via website/auction. I'll look for minor variations of course, along with tabs that I am missing. Might pick up a decent SW flat if onw peaks my interest since I'll be in the area. Trade a few coasters, drink a few craft beers, and enjoy the greatest show on Earth.

On the contrary, if there are any oddball NJ cans, you wont have all that local competition like you do back home. When I moved to California back in the 80s and attended all the CA shows, I cleaned up on Chicago cans because everyone else was looking for California stuff. But sometimes going in with low expectations other than having a good time, when you do find something good, it is really exciting!

My brother and I always found good (non-eastern cans) at Blue-Gray for our collections.....

I'll be bringing on-grade bottom opened Tivoli gardens tab tops.

I'm looking to get ongrade Top Hat, Heritage, Coors Export, Coors Golden, A-1 OI, A-1 blue band at top with no "Carling", 007, Pike's Peak multicolored can, something like those. I know they are more common on-grade than the Tivoli Gardens tab but that's what I'm looking for.
