So you may be wondering what the heck the subject line had to do with beer can collecting. I just left my local post office from mailing a couple of packages. When the clerk (never seen before) asked the standard question if the boxes contained any hazardous stuff, etc, etc, etc, I casually answered (as I always do) “nah, just rusty beer cans.” Well that started a conversation that led her to tell me that her now deceased great grandmother collected beer cans 30 yrs ago!! (in addition to other things). Had “one entire room full of them on special shelves”. And that she believes her grandmother still has them! I live in VA, and IF this collection still exists it is in TX. Of course I had to pull out my phone and show her pics of my can room (much to the grumbling dismay of customers waiting behind me!!). She was fascinated that other people collect-she thought her great grandma was the only one. She took my contact info and told me she would definitely pass it in to her grandmother. I thanked her profusely and told her I would be very interested in talking to her grandmother if she still has the collection. Also told her depending on what cans she had, that she could be sitting on a good chunk of change.
Of course I never get excited with stuff like this, and don’t really expect anything to materialize here. If something does come to pass I may need to recruit some of my rusty Texas brethren for some logistical assistance.
Moral of the story: CAST YOUR LINE AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU’LL HOOK THE BIG ONE!
