4th of July Weekend Digging trip

#1

Post by DanielinAk »

It started out as a 4 day dig that quickly went from a vacation to a breakation.
The RV broke down almost at the Canadian Border and I was able to limp 50 miles from Tok and $900 tow later. And had a friend come retrieve us 250 miles from home.
But that’s ok. In the mean time the wife and I managed to find a few cans before the breakdown and after.
IMG_2825.jpg
Abandoned highway section found.
IMG_2840.jpg
at the second highway section the first can to be found was this Hamms
IMG_2845.jpg
Spent an hour here and found these
IMG_2847.jpg
Wife thought it was just a dirt road but I told her the dirt road was constructed and compacted material. Once we drove in I spotted the section of asphalt that I took the picture of cans sitting on it.
IMG_2849.jpg
at the third site before breaking down we found these Rainier’s and Hamms on top of the ground.
IMG_2850.jpg
at the forth site I called the wife in the radio to let her know that there wasn’t anything at the area I was searching, until I spotted this crap down the hill. I started flipping all this stuff over to search under it and found the Antifreeze cans.
IMG_2854.jpg
Then I spotted man made wood further to my right which turned out to be a dump several hundred yards long. But mostly 40’s and 50’s vehicles, 55 gallon drums and to much petroleum products, but I did find cans.
IMG_2857.jpg
IMG_2858.jpg
IMG_2860.jpg
IMG_2855.jpg
IMG_2867.jpg
Then we broke down 8 pm in the evening and in true Alaskan fashion why cry over spilt milk? The wife and I parted games and beat horse flys for entertainment until someone would drive by. Which never happened. So 8 am we drove down the road 4 miles when the RV overheated and died as I was driving. Finally got help which is a long story in its own right how we managed that with no cell signal.
IMG_2879.jpg
IMG_2870.jpg
In the mean time I used melted ice to wash this can to see what I had.
The next day now home after being rescued and abandoning the RV in Tok to be fixed the wife and I headed to old faithful
IMG_2908.jpg
.
I believe this will be the best Black Miller I’ve ever dug.
IMG_2917.jpg
Then the wife says she dug a Gold Bud and hands me a WF Gold Bud
IMG_2929.jpg
Three fiesta for us here, wife dug her first 16oz Budweiser and I dug my first 16oz Colt 45 and 15oz Hamms.
IMG_2931.jpg
We did manage a pile of cans tho.
And
IMG_2930.jpg
So far I’ve cleaned the wife’s WF Gold Bud

@DanielinAk Sorry to hear about the breakcation but hope you and the wife made the best of it and based on the photos it looks like you did....

Bud looks like a Lilek 151 or 152 (i.e. no brewed and canned" wording....MPC being the real difference ACCO 68A or ACCO 44AD

Curious where the Clot 45 zip top is from...I'd assume Detroit but we're talking Alaska....

Thanks bud. Yeah we are fine and everything is good to go. And to to things off I made a great contact on some property that had a gas station and barracks that where used by the military during the building of the highway in 43.
Haven’t cleaned the Colt 45 yet but I just added it to the bucket, donuts soaking now.

Smoke is so bad from the fires around us. I’ll be staying home cleaning cans today.

Definitely the nicest Black Miller I’ve dug. And this one was a first for me. I haven’t dug one with the Red Lettering with the Bottle on the side panel.

I Wonder if there is any Black Miller withdrawnfree cans to find up there. I think Kamsquared Kurt the Miller Specialist is still looking for one of those. And the Red Miller Withdrawnfree too. LEON.

What does a Black Miller WF look like? And I’m dying to find a Red Miller.

The black Miller withdrawnfree looks just like the IRTP Black Miller or Non IRTP Miller like yours only withdrawnfree. Same with the Red Miller, looks similar to all the other Red Millers.

Great stuff! Thanks for bringing us along.
I was wondering the same on the Miller. The black WF Miller is missing the ‘Old Original’ bottom front. Kams has one of the cups, this’s #16/20. I’ve never held a red one. Ziphippie

Cool. Ok I’ll have to check my other ones out. I know I have the bottle side panel but I don’t recall digging one with the wording on the side panel. But if I did it probably was ate up and I just chucked em away.

My black WF Millercup is #14/20 from the same find as Bjorn's. Regarding the red Miller WF can.......I've never held, seen, or know of anyone who has.

I was fortunate enough to hold both of them before the Lewandowskis sold their collection. They went due north, to reside with 900+ other OI cans.
