I’m so freaking excited.
One of my mystery cans turned out to be my first OD.

Nice Job! Its a real OD and it's also different than mine as it only states Internal Revenue Tax Paid in big letters... my text is smaller and says Withdrawn Free of ....

Re: Olive Drab Lucky Lager
Thanks bud. I believe I dug a different or unknown variation possibly that was only sent to Alaska even though Alaska was an overseas tour but it is not in the European theater which required their withdrawn free statement. So perhaps it was only sent to Alaska only research can tellCap-Sealed wrote:Nice Job! Re: Olive Drab Lucky Lager
I've been actively digging since the 70's and have yet to find an OD can. Excellent job. Lucky OD's are around due to a large find many years ago on a base in the lower 48. They all say withdrawn free on the side and have a disregard statement on the lid. You may have something unique.
There are probably other unknown wartime variations waiting to be found in Alaska. That Ruppert you found might be one for all we know. The Sick's Lagers were sent up there. There was about 18 dumped in poor condition and one or two indoorish examples and that's it. If not for the big find of Propeller cans in a dump near Fairbanks those would be very scarce. Who knows what is still waiting to be discovered.
You certainly have some challenges digging given the population scarcity back in the day, limited digging season, and a vast area to cover. At least it's 99% virgin as there has been very little dumping done up there for obvious reasons. Also rural areas have not changed much in the last 75 years.

The luckiest dumpers don't rely on good fortune, the unluckiest do.

Re: Olive Drab Lucky Lager
Is there a possibility of it being filled almost immediately after civilian production began and they simply took a blank OD sheet and put an IRTP statement on it?

Re: Olive Drab Lucky Lager
I'm going to guess that's your rarest best find yet. Now if you could just dig a buried pit of them in grade 1 so we could all have one that would be great. I'd go back to where you found that one & look for more. Congrats on a rare find LEON.
