Re: Rolling Rock detail horse tab
Do both labels have the detail horse and the ‘pony’ on the back? My ss can is a combo of both cans in the book. Lebo has some on theBay now, all with the ‘pony’- no detail. Ziphippie

Re: Rolling Rock detail horse tab
Would below variation (waterfall, pony head on back, gold lids, Continental) be considered a fourth?:

Kinda makes wonder if there was ever a white horse front and detailed horse on the back side of the first style tab top.....oldmoneytexan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 04, 2018 5:40 pm I have 3 variations.

Re: Rolling Rock detail horse tab
Never hurts to ask...These had been listed on the bay for quite awhile, only a front view was shown in the listing, I finally contacted the seller yesterday morning for some more pics including the back sides, several hours later he replied and said he up-dated the listing with more pics, low and behold the variation I've been after for some time now is there!!, of the four "waterfall front, horse head back" can, one is the detail/bridled horse head can, and it's the nicest of the four, I made him a fair offer for the whole lot which he accepted....glad I asked, not an easy can to come by.s-l1600 (71).jpg[/attachment]

Re: Rolling Rock detail horse tab
I've wondered if the 7oz "waterfall front, horse-head back" can ever came with a detailed/bridled horse-head on any of them, so far all of the detailed horse-head cans I own and have seen pictures of have been cans made by Crown, my 7oz is a CCC can, at this point I don't know if Crown ever made any 7oz cans for Rolling Rock, if so, it would more than likely be a detailed head can, I still have no clue why Crown changed the label when making cans for Rolling Rock, but when I come across either the 12oz or 7oz cans of this label, I always check them.

Re: Rolling Rock detail horse tab
Not sure if this is really relevant or not, but thought I'd add it to the thread, here's a pic of the lids of the detail (on the left) and white head horse tab top cans that I have, I also noted that the the bottom lids have what looks to be date codes? on them, the detail can has the numbers 71/159 on the bottom lid, and the white head can bottom lid has 72/166 stamped into it, anyone know what these numbers really mean?

Re: Rolling Rock detail horse tab
The only other place besides advertising that I've seen the detailed horse head is on bottle caps/crowns (or maybe the cone-top can caps/crowns), not researching or being a cap collector, I can't say for sure when or what this style cap was used on, tough reversed, it resembles the image closely on the detailed/bridled horse head cans.

Re: Rolling Rock detail horse tab
I checked the BMV and found one article that contains details regarding changes in their cans, no images to compare. This article was from 1981. A search of the BMV listed a bunch of can changes, some of which had images along with minor descriptive info.

Re: Rolling Rock detail horse tab
Did a quick look at of the pages listed in the BMV search of "Rolling Rock". There's certainly a lot of detail for the differences in their cans for collectors of finite details. I stopped at 1995, thinking there would be minimal interest beyond that.

Thank you sir....would still like to know more about when/why Crown can got involved with Rolling Rock and why they made a change to the label....MI-Cans wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 11:15 am Did a quick look at of the pages listed in the BMV search of "Rolling Rock". No matter how many times I count the “wording”,
I do not come up with ‘33’ ?!!?
One of life’s mysteries I guess. Ziphippie

After hours of staring I see how you did that now. Not sure that would be the reason for the ‘33’ included on the can. Repeal date was Dec. ‘33- I don’t care for speculation just makes more sense to me. Ziphippie

After reading that the brewery re-opened in '33, that was my thought as well, it does makes more sense....
