New price record for a zip code soda can?

#1

Post by dtsoc »

I can't remember seeing a zip code can go over the $500 mark before. Maybe a Coke test can at some point, but not a regular issue like this. Paul Rebner owned the first of these before his collection was sold. Not sure where it ended up. This makes two... There were three bidders over the $500 mark - only two display :(

Wow - I do vaguely remember seeing that. Have more Code Red's shown up? Did you ever get one?

I have never seen another and no I do not have one. Best I can remember the can was like 80 % red and it said code red at an angle in white. Then Mountain dew was in the mix but cannot remember how it was orientated. Its supposed to be a tough can. but I don't know how to verify that.

You are confusing MD code red with MD red. They are different. Code red was released in 2001 and had a cherry like flavor. Had a years long run and moderate popularity. MD red was their first spin off. Released in 1988 and only in Alabama, apparently. Fruit flavored, not cherry. It also had a diet version. Both lasted less than one year. Thus the rarity. This bottle picture is the best I could find.

Here's what the can looks like. I spent a lot of time many years ago walking the Alabama streets looking in the ditches & over drop offs for dumps. Sure would be nice to find some of these. LEON.

Maybe, but the can I was bidding on years ago had CODE on it.

Cool but that is not the one. One I bid on did not have a bar code on it.

Well anyway it has been years. Maybe it did have a bar code and maybe it was RED. Guess another option is it could have been foreign ? Here is Aurora Dew from Japan. Apparently it was made in a regular can too but I have never seen one. This version recently sold for $1,775! Yes 80’s pull tab.....careful what ya toss. Lastly the iconic summer cans are very under rated but will catch on. See one of these you better hold on to it. Only 1000 of each of the 6 designs were produced.

Here is the Mountain Dew Red can that sold for $821 in March of 2015. I knew I saved it, but had to look a little to find it.

Thanks. I know for a fact that the can I'm referring to sold before 2015 and I feel like in excess of 10 years ago because the most I had ever paid for a can was $600 for a Roy Rogers Lemon Lime and I was thinking to myself how crazy is it that I'm bidding $630 on an aluminum can. Here is a picture I took of the Roy Rogers before selling it in 2014 and when I listed it in June of 2014. Guess it will forever remain a mystery.
