I think Foley may still have the one he got from Me about 20 years ago for sale after he upgraded it about 5 years ago. LEON.

Second loser here.

Since so few of these come up for sale, I could only guess what it would go for. Given it's condition, I thought around $150 but I was obviously way off. It makes me wonder what a shiny one would fetch.

By the way, here are pictures so when we read this thread two years from now, we will know what the can looked like. Final sale price was $333 plus shipping.

4th loser here. I was going to bid again but forgot. The $333 no surprise, sounds about right or maybe should of got more considering how rare it is. I'd like to see how much a nice shiny Metallic one would get also but it does not exist from Grand Rapids in a 12 oz. cone. Even the much more common Marion variation is extremely hard to fine with nice shiny gold due to the Delicate nature of metallics. I added the Auction to Auction results Category a few hours ago for safe keeping. LEON.

BIN (Buy it now) price was $1,650 w/ free shipping.

Instead, bidding pushed it up to $1,899 + $15 shipping.

Good for the seller, he basically got his ebay & PayPal fees payed for.

I think people's first reaction to buy it now's are that it is always overpriced. It's a risk but over time I think you will do better with auctions, in this case I am guessing many who wanted it just hoped it would go for less in auction.

I've seen a few beer cans get more then the buy it now. I've put cans on ebay with high opening bid but still a good deal only to get 1 snipper bid at the end. Then high bidder will list on ebay a week later with low opening bid & no reserve & get twice as much as he just bought from me. It's all Psychological.

I agree with this to some degree. However, as @Leon points out, sometimes deals can be found with BIN if you catch them early. I posted a can last year, BIN, at like $325. Can was sold in 12 minutes. Guess my price was too low, or, just found the right buyer at the right time.

What I found interesting about the auction on the ABC can, is that the seller had the BIN price listed in his description. Usually, on Ebay, when there is a BIN price and the ability to post a bid, the BIN drops off as soon as there is a bid. So, people coming in after the first bid may not even know it was previously offered at a set price. In this case, buyers were reminded to the very end that they were potentially paying more than the seller originally wanted.

Now that, is psychological.

The BIN (fixed price) drops off on the 1st bid if there is no 'reserve'. Reserves are expensive (seller's listing fees) so most sellers start a listing with a high priced opening bid which costs nothing except a lot less bidders bidding.

They have made reserves so high nobody wants to use them anymore. So you start with high bid or take a big risk. I've lost out way to much on no reserves or no high opening bid. For example, some might remember this. Great Falls from 6 sicks sold for $30 here in Rusty Bunch (everybody screams that was a steal), week later similar can in similar condition (starting out at .99 cents) gets $65 on ebay. Week later I throw mine on ebay (in similar condition) with opening bid of .99 cents & got high bid of $2.25. Everybody laughed at my low selling price. I call it MLS Murphys law syndrome. LEON.

I know exactly what you mean Leon. BUT there is way more to it than Murphy. Right place at the right time is a part of that equation along with 100+ other factors. The best way to maximize your ebay item's final value is for you to have an item that is unique.

I had the same item everybody else had that got $30 & $60 while I got 2 dollars & 25 cents. I'm just saying for me ebay to unpredictable to take a low opening bid risk.

That's good! It's best to keep some items up there all the time. My experience is that the auctions are like you say, Murphy's Law, more and more all the time. Unless it's a real good can, it's a crap-shoot just to get a bid.

Leon,
Never give up!
GUENNESS FLAT.jpg
I listed this can with starting bid $19 ... 2 weeks ago. no interest
re-listed it last week starting bid $9.
sold for $30 with 5 different bidders. I think it's worth more, but I don't know the international flats very well and it's uncleaned.

I've had similar things happen & seen many odd things. That's why I'm always saying ebay is so Unpredictable & in my opinion not to accurate to use as a Price gauge or a what's it worth tool. LEON.

I agree totally.
Way more beer listings than the old days. more of a buyer's marketplace now for the 'good' but not 'great' stuff.
on another front.... It's crazy how there are so many listings of unopened beer containers. As a seller, that worries me big time. eBay could go down over a lawsuit for facilitating illegal activity that leads to a catastrophic event. 100's of 36-packs Bud Light were sold last year. There are international listings for beer from all over the world. crazy!

Sorry if this seems like this ebay auction is not what you were looking for, but it's kinda the focus of what I'm collecting now and this auction result floored me. Wanted to document it somewhere and this seemed like as good a place as any. I'm collecting cans that are actually other things. One of the things they make look like beer cans are fishing lures. I was tracking this Labatts lure and put what I thought was an aggressive bid on it, but they couldn't even see me in the rear view mirror once it was over. SImilar lures by the same company with Bud or Coors, go for between $10 and $30. This auction concluded at.......

$464.97

Wow.....anyway just thought you might find it interesting.

THAT'S A HUGE NUMBER. MUST BE RARE. Canadians are way more into fishing than we are in the USA.... except a few states.

I collect vintage (and some not-so-vintage pool balls) so while not exactly beer can related, but vicariously related to the lures that look like beer cans...that's me reasoning at least.

So very cool, but not within my price range.

Hi Jack!
Monster- I could make some pool ball spinner type lures just like the ones you have pictured. I make musky bucktails- just need some small pool balls to drill out. I have the old table top spring loaded cue stick game, perfect sized balls for this project! Muskie Dan had a decent following and made some nice stuff, but these do not showcase his talent. I think he stopped making lures about 5years ago. Ziphippie
