Does It Exist Or Not?

#1

Post by MI-Cans »

I was looking through the archive and noticed the color differences in the can(s) four months apart. The first ad is from March 30, 1950 and the second one is from July 15, 1950.

The Supplement only show the darker (red) version. Anyone know if there’s was an earlier lighter colored (possibly white) version? Any pictures?

Never seen one - unfortunately probably just an artist rendering but now we all have something to be on the lookout for. It's funny, I was looking for Southern Select can ads this past week on newspaper.com and was not having much luck. I believe it's because the newspapers that they have access to are fairly limited. Would love to find J-spout and crowntainers in Ads.

I agree with Steve, it's an artist's rendering or a change made by the art department to make the label "pop" in the black and white printing process.

That being said, I would love to find one!

Steve I find the Crowntainers in ads pretty frequently but I have never found the J-Spout. This is from the Lake Charles American Press 7-3-41.

I know of other cans that used to be called artist rendering or prop for ad or only exist in ad but never really made or marketed ect, ect, but then all the sudden they pop up & exist. For Example, Both white Hillmans & Fox Deluxe. LEON.
