@Rand has boring observations these days now that the armistice in the OI wars has been declared, and peace has spread over the land. *MY* can of the show was probably a Burgermeister salt and pepper shaker in the original cardboard box.....so....you see where my head's at. I'll leave it to others to break down the highlights. I will note that there was a feeding frenzy at the back of the room toward the end when a lady brought in her late father's? collection. I apologize for not catching the names or the details.....and I didn't participate in the frenzy but wandered by later on while they were bandaging the wounded and piling up treasures from conquered lands.

OK....here's my story.....though it's more self reflective than an overall Watsonville report as requested.

Since my OI amputation, I've wandered in a few different directions. Having a lot of empty built in shelf space, I wanted to pack stuff in there cheap and fast and "pretty". So I dove into windtunnel Ranier Jubes. Have 129 different variations at this point.....really interesting stuff to study and look at......and it addresses a lot of the empty shelf issue. However that wasn't enough.....so I also started collecting beer cans that aren't beer cans. Things that look like beer cans but have a completely different function and were never designed to hold beer. To that end, I've been collecting those little cans that hold golf balls.....and handkerchiefs.....and ones that were made into radios and phones and cameras and can openers and matchholders and salt and pepper shakers etc etc etc. It's really fascinating what all was done with cans! I tell you all this as a preamble to showing you what I brought home from Watsonville. Jubes are self explanatory. The other picture shows 5 bank cans, one bic lighter can, salt and pepper shakers are the two buds on top, the burgermeister set in the box on the table and the burger and lite on top. The Miller on top is one of those can openers that drops out the bottom, the storz/busch/schmidt are match holders, the half can Lite is a handle for a cooler door, the 6 pack is all cardboard....including the cans....and is some sort of display item.....and the huge budweiser is an buoy to help you locate your anchor (and the 6 for $0.99 is another side collection of priced cans)

If you have any beer cans that aren't beer cans but serve some other purpose, let me know! Send them my way! :-)

Wow! Looks like a great show. As always after viewing the pics from a show I couldn't attend that someone took time out of their day at no charge to take and post (thank you!) I'm wishing I knew who the owners were so I could Inquire if items of interest are still available. Might be asking to much but would it be possible for person taking pics /someone else or possibly the owners to go back in and put their name and contact under the RB posted pic? Or possibly the event host put together a card (showing name and phone or email) for each participant to put in front of their table when the pictures are taken? Participants are obviously interested in selling or trading their items and this would ensure a larger audience. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Interested in all flat and Cone Soda and Water cans.

There's always something for everyone at Watsonville. If you have never gone, you missed out because I believe this was the last one. The show's host has health problems and just cant commit anymore. Gene DiCicco ran it for 38 years. The good news is that the show will probably move to Sacramento and could be a multi-day show. It will be more centrally located for most collectors although I will miss the Pacific Ocean. Its always fun to go to the beach, even for just a couple of hours.

I completely agree with you. Some people have pictures made by Barry on their tables with their cell phone number. When I was taking pictures at Cleveland, I often got a picture of the owner in the picture to make identifying the stuff later easier. That seemed to work pretty well at that show (room to room) but it seems like at trade floor style shows, people are often away from their tables so I am less likely to get them in the picture. I would love people to put a sign on their table not only to make the pictures better but also to make it easier for people at the show to find them. I have completed deals before because the seller left his cell phone number on his table. Without it, I would have kept walking and conceivably spent all my money before he showed up again.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

2023 Shows Attended

* Michigan Chapter Winterfest, January 14, Frankenmuth Michigan
* Cabin Fever Reliever, February 24, Mishawaka Indiana

My take from Watsonville 2018
My take from Watsonville 2018
Here is my take from Watsonville 2018. GREAT show for me. Lots of fun. Great camaraderie at the show and night before and a very good spirit at the show on Saturday. I sold more than I bought (hardly ever happens), sold at least 1 can from my tote and picked up some very cool pieces. Got to visit Corrlitos brewing company twice and go to my favorite produce market. Played golf on Friday. Many thanks to Ken Harootunian for the Red's magazine and the Wieland's bottle for free!!!

All in all a great show.

Scott. Hat's off! Nice..... yes a sign like that.....Im assuming that whomever is hosting the show knows who is getting the tables so maybe that person (as if they don't have enough going on already) could print them off and hand them to the table owners when collecting the table fee or something like that. Anyway, thanks for the responses.....sometimes I live in fantasy land, but hey that's what dreams are for right?

The best Watsonville show for me EVER! Came away with 4 lights (ABC neon, the horseshoe one, the Lucky Lager neon, the Hollywood Market sign, and the Buffalo brewing light out of Sacramento), 2 cans, the Grace Bros EXTRA PALE OI can and the 50's Old Gold, about 20 or so mini bottles from a huge find by Bob Welch, 2 quart bottles (ABC from San Diego and Glacier from Pacific, and a Lucky Lager tap knob. I wasn't expecting to get such a haul, but it was amazing! Gave away a lot of free beer on Friday night too! I'm sad the show will be coming to an end, it was great.
