considering selling 2 very rare Narragansett test cans

#1

Post by clark »

I'm considering selling my 2 Narragansett test cans. While I like them very much, I don't specialize in anything where they would fit, and I know there are some of you out there dreaming of having 1 or both of these rare cans.

I got them as flats at a rummage sale in the 80's. There was only 1 of the blue ones and about 4 of the ales. I paid 25 cents each, but I'll need to sell them for a little more now, you know, with inflation and all. They were rolled in the 90's (sorry, but I don't know the name of the craftsman who rolled them). I sold/traded the extra ales shortly after they were rolled, and these are all I have left.

Here are a few past discussions about these labels:

I know that a blue one sold on ebay for $2100 in 2015, but I haven't seen any sales of the ale. Based on the past discussions, both seem equally rare at <10 known, but I assume the blue one is more valuable since it's a more interesting/unique label.

Scott, that's a fair question, but I don't have a good answer, yet. For now, I'll entertain offers. I hate to sound greedy, but I want the best price I can get if I decide to sell. In the $10k tab discussion, it was suggested that the blue one is worth more than $4k. Maybe I should put them on ebay and let the fair market determine the price.

Did all of the known Ales with the contents at front bottom come from this find or are there more than 4?

There's this post from 2012 about another one: http://www.therustybunch.com/phpBB3/vie ... 9&p=194821

The 4 Ales from my find were all rolled at the same time with the same lids & roll techniques, so they should look nearly identical to mine in the above photos. Does anybody have one with different lids or other details?

@clark

I think there is a good chance ebay will cancel your auctions because you included a link to this site. You may want to consider saying something along the lines of, "The Rusty Bunch is currently discussing these cans in the General Discussion forum." That should be enough detail for a serious person to find the discussion without getting the auction canceled.

Good luck!
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

pinnacle - thanks for the advice, I didn't know I was breaking an ebay rule. I made a change similar to what you suggested.

Thanks for posting the links. Out of my price range but I will enjoy watching to see how they do!
