Prayers go out to our fellow members expected to be directly impacted by Hurricane Florence

#1

Post by keithker »

Hope fellow members that are expected to be impacted by this major mess known as Hurricane Florence are able to secure what they can and make it safely through the storm. Please keep us/others informed on your status. Hope it falls apart before it makes landfall but best to be prepared either way.......

I must admit, whenever I hear about flooding, fires, tornadoes and hurricanes one of my first thoughts is "what about the beer cans?" or any other similar collection. Most people are smart enough to seek shelter and most home furnishings can quickly be replaced or upgraded, but those beloved collections may NEVER be replaced. Makes me sad! Wishing everyone in the path of this latest storm Good Luck & Stay Safe!

Not looking good.....Our Redwood RV is sitting in Cherry Grove, North Myrtle Beach on our lot and Florence is coming. We are 950 miles away and can not get there to get it out in time since they will not allow us in and even if we can we would never get inland in time. I was lucky enough today that I have a fellow installing 8 straps from frame to concrete pad in the morning. We were heading back there on the 22nd so my slides are even out. 500 feet in front of us down a small road in the resort is the ocean so not much protection except Cherry Grove wraps around slightly in the front since we are on the back side of the marsh.

Not a very good feeling this week!!

Keep Mr. Seamonkey in your thoughts since he is only about 2 miles from the coast.

Live reporting from the front lines in Myrtle Beach. Mandatory evacuation starts today at noon. All major roads leading OUT of MB will be one way to help evacuate. We are planning to try to ride it out. Packing up the collection, 3 dogs and 2 cats and heading inland is not a very enticing proposition.....

Riding out a cat 1 or 2 maybe. But 3, 4, 5 no way. Even is you don't get a direct hit, the wind, water, no power, AC, ..... is something you have no control over. Mother nature will do what she will do. Pack what you can and get out. Sitting in your car in a Walmart parking lot with your family and pets a 100 miles away is a much better place to be.

@Sea Monkey Scott.....I'm in violent agreement with @Flat_Top Chuck having experienced the fair share here in Florida. Unless this thing suddenly breaks up, serious thoughts should be given into the risk associated with sitting it out in place........

Scott,

Seriously, you should heed the advice of those that care about you and Melanie. Life is more important than anything physical. You can replace physical things but you can't replace life. You may have rode it out before, but they say this one is bad. Please give it some thought and evacuate.

BE SAFE SCOTT...……. Keep us posted!!!!!!!!

As I mentioned we are not there and made the choice not to make the run to get it since I know what I would be driving into. We can replace the RV but this morning I was able to get my buddy to put 8 straps from the frame to the concrete pad. Finding the correct straps yesterday was a project and had to go to three places to get all the parts.

Scott, I really hope you reconsider your plans. Here are quotes I just got off of CNN.

"This is not going to be a glancing blow. ... This is going to be a Mike Tyson punch to the Carolina coast."

"Florence, one of the strongest storms on the Eastern Seaboard in decades, is a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 130 mph."

"More people are involved in this now, especially even Myrtle Beach, because the storm was not (previously) forecast to turn left toward you,"

"This will likely be the storm of a lifetime for portions of the Carolina coast, and that's saying a lot given the impacts we've seen from Hurricanes Diana, Hugo, Fran, Bonnie, Floyd and Matthew."
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

UPDATE Scott and Melanie made the decision to head out of town when the track shifted and put Myrtle Beach in the direct path. When I texted him this evening (12 Sept) he indicated that he was in W Va. and heading towards Michigan. Now we can hope that others have made the prudent decision to heed the warnings and take measures needed to ensure safety of themselves.
All we can do is hope the storm really quickly falls apart and the impact is minimal to life, property and the beloved collections...........

First my girl suffers a spinal cord injury at the hands of a careless Dr (Permanently paralyzed from the belly down).
Next along comes Matthew 2yrs ago and we lose our house. Then we get a new house on stilts. Now Florence is forecast to flood our new house. Supposed to be in DE to settle our lawsuit on the 21st. (Which may not be possible.) Meanwhile my mother is in a rehabilitation facility following heart problems. To top it off it looks like her house will have 4ft of water on the first floor by Tuesday. Been a pretty crappy 4yrs. 😢😭

Not too bad here in Raleigh. Lots of rain. Minor wind for a hurricane. I do have one tree down on the back of My property. No damage to anything. Power was out for awhile. No big deal. I got lots of food, charcoal , bullets & beer. I think I'll be alright. Thinking of My friends in the New Bern area though. Looks like they got it the worst.
