The "Original" or not Iron City Brewing Company....

#1

Post by keithker »

EDIT: Looks like the Lebanon Brewery must have been related in some fashion to the one in Pittsburgh or simply had the same name. Need to do some more homework......

Long before the Iron City Brewing Company came to be well known operating out of Pittsburgh, the brewery by that very name was operating actually out of Lebanon, Pa.

I happened to pick up this gaudy looking breweriana piece for a killer price at an online auction site (I never win on those auction sites) while at the Omaha CANvention. Guess it went cheap simply because somebody painted it an ungodly color. I was told that the original color was actually a darker green with some yellow/gold highlights where the iron was supposed to be being poured. I hope to be able to get it back to its original color. Here is the background on the brewery.

Trade Names for the brewery at North 8th & Mechanic Streets, Lebanon, PA:
Iron City Brewing Co. 1889-1920
Brewery operations shut down by National Prohibition in 1920-1933
Issued U-Permit No. PA-U-305A allowing the resumption of brewing operations 1933
P. & H. Brewing Co. 1933-1934
Closed in 1934

Products:
Lebanon Special Beer 1933 - 1934

There was an Iron City Brewery, but they did not make Iron City Beer. Iron City Beer was brewed by the Pittsburgh Brewing Company.

Hmmmm. you may be on to something about a little repaint. I think I spot a bit of a touch up. Maybe a blacklight will help you narrow down exactly what areas were repainted
