Thought I was buying an upgrade... but wait just a minute!!!
I recently picked up the can on the right as an upgrade (to my shelfer on the left). Got it today and comparing the two realized the new can is actually different! "Hopfen Und Malz-Gott Erhalts" written along the top. My bad for not noticing sooner, but now that they are in hand, side by side, it's clearly apparent.
So, now what to do? I was planning on selling the "downgrade" to help pay for the updgrade. But, they're different. Book seems to indicate that the non-extra text can is more difficult. Is that still true? Significantly tougher, or just a little tougher?
Definitely keeping the can on the right. Great condition and love the cap. While the extra wording may not be the toughest version, it certainly adds something to the can.
So, keep both or move the can on the left along to allow someone else to enjoy it while I recover some cash?

Nice cans for sure! I have the impression that they are about equal in rarity. Matt

Beautiful cans. Maybe keep both and sell a kidney?

Want to send one of them to me to take it off your hands??
Seriously, those are two nice cans! And I agree, probably equal or so in rarity ...

That's a significant difference so I suggest keeping them both. Go sell some of your plasma to recoup the money you would have got by selling one.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

My two cents, I would keep both of them, especially if that brand is one of the focuses of your collection. That is a significant difference. You'll regret it later if you let one go.

Re: Thought I was buying an upgrade... but wait just a minute!!!
I would keep them both, those are distinctly different cans in my book. I always though it would be cool to have all of the red, white and blue cans. The blue sparkling ale is tough, don't even see any dumpers much, but beercansplus has had one on their website for a while.
My memory may be tricking me but I thought I saw an unlisted high profile Sparkling Ale that was missing the text on top on Ebay a couple of years ago, is it possible the high pros all came with both variations like the low pros?
Edit: I don't see anything in the USBC supplement and it seems odd they would have removed the text on top again later, I am thinking I must have seen a low pro sparkling ale. The original german text was removed because of WW2 I imagine.

Please don't consider this a criticism, but I'm amazed that you consider the left one in need of an upgrade - she's a beauty!

Keep them both and eat soup for a week. They are stunning cans and are a great example of the getting everything German off cans right before the war. They have a great color and you will never need to upgrade them in the future.

Re: Thought I was buying an upgrade... but wait just a minute!!!
Man, no pressure here!
Might be kind of tough delivering papers, after having a kidney removed, while being a quart low on plasma and eating soup. But I'm willing to try. LOL!!!
Thanks for the input and nice comments. Will definitely hang on to both for now. I'm not a Utica Club specialist, just really like clean low pro cones. Can on the left is great. A small spot of rust (on the front of course) and the bottom rim is a little crusty in spots. Otherwise very nice and the gold on the top is better than the new can. Can on the right came available, so I snagged it.
Still can't believe I didn't realize the variation difference until I had them both in hand. Thought I was better than that!! Anyway, fun stuff and thanks again.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a 3rd one you now need to be on the look out for. It has American writing in the top band. You will then NEED the 3 each variations in Blue AND white. VERY Patriotic....lol

Sell them both and start over. You've obviously messed this up somehow.

How much are we talking ? If it’s hundreds of $, sell a bunch of easy $10 and $20 cans to pay for it and if you ever miss the $10 cans you sell you can always buy one later. That said, I’d keep both

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

Re: Thought I was buying an upgrade... but wait just a minute!!!
I think the Hi Pro with the English writing is the 3rd can to the set. If an English writing Lo-Pro can exists I have never seen it and I have always been a bit partial to UC cans. There are actually more variations in the quarts than in the 12oz. Fun set to put together, but those Sparkling Ales (Blue) are really tough.
