Digging with Scott "Flat Tire" Field & Bill....

#1

Post by Cap-Sealed »

Headed home after a week of digging in the woods. Scotty joined us for a few days until he got another flat with his new tires and left us Monday morning. FYI - he won the Dale Bramlette Unlucky Dumper Award last year for 2 flats in the same day - the tradition continues! We did pretty good and just mailed home all the cans. Bill Lindstrom said he had his best day ever pit digging on Wednesday.

Last year's mishap was due to having lousy 4-ply stock tires on my new truck and tearing them up on really rough roads. Those were replaced with much more durable all-terrain tires but I still managed to pick up a nail somewhere. Fortunately we were able to make it off the forest with my spare unlike last year. We were wrapping things up anyhow so except for having to change the tire, it was not too much of an inconvenience. While I don't wish anybody misfortune, this is hardly worth a repeat award of the unlucky dumper of the year trophy.
The luckiest dumpers don't rely on good fortune, the unluckiest do.

Yeah, but I think you have to change your Rusty Bunch "Nickname" now. "Flatire" or "Flat-Tire" or "Flattire" would work. What do you guys think?

All in all, we had a blast....lot of research and then searching for those spots. Sometimes you do everything right and $hit still happens. We avoided the rain for the most part but Bill & I still had to spend a couple nights in a motel to stay dry. 4 cases of 30s cans on Wednesday plus a bunch of IRTP made the trip. Scott took home the weekend cans to clean and we mailed everything else to Bill's house in Texas for cleaning and glory pix......

I was in Portland, Oregon last Monday and was able to meet with Scotty and split some cans he took home & cleaned from our trip in June. Nothing big but was fun to camp & dig this stuff.

Looks like lots of fun digging and nice colorful cans.
"Although the cans will be of no value after opened, their cost is expected to be small..." Iowa: June 22, 1935

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?
