First Western Finds

#1

Post by Conehead »

The gates to the back country in my new home state started opening up on April 15th, so I was finally able to get out and bleep around a bit. I wasn't able to get to the target area I wanted to (still one more locked gate I have to wait to be opened), so I looked around at a creek side camping/picnic area that I thought had been used for quite some time.

It didn't take long to find some buried goodies and the first can out of the ground was......(drum roll please). I was fully suspecting it to be a Coors, but it was a Becker's (which is not much better).

I continued to look around and found a long abandoned picnic area across the creek.

I quickly found small pit on the hillside of all places. It was hard to dig but it was good to be back in the dirt. There were about a dozen cans (black Acmes and Becker's OI) in this small hole.

Condition really wasn't that great but I did find one can-in-a-can that might clean up.

There was also lots of scattered mystery cans laying about. I even found a solid mystery cone. So after my first outing, it looks like there is lots of potential for some really good stuff in this area. I'll post some cleaned pics soon. Stay tuned.

Any chance those black Acme's have a 3.2 statement on the side panel under the brewery?

I know the 3.2% cones to look for but never thought much about the flats. Thanks for bringing this up. I don't think the side panel is visible on any of them but they should clean up enough to tell.

Now that you proved theres pit in Utah.... find the Beckers with the flying Goose on them....or is that Uinta Clubs? A real sleeper Utah flat top is the brown and white Brewer's Choice... I think that has a flying goose on it too.

I guess it's possible. I know the only dumper find was in Wyoming and I'm not that far from the border. Fingers crossed.

Here are the cleaned up goodies. Nothing really to write home about, but fun to dig none-the-less.

Keepers.JPG

The Beckers are both OI and 2 sided. #35-25, #35-26.
The Acme does not have the 3.2% and is #29-8

The mystery scatter cans were Blatz #39-8, Fisher #63-38, Lucky #92-26, and Becker #35-28

Not a single Coors!

Highly doubtful.... Regan found his 6 pack in Montana. I dont know of any other dumper finds. But anything is possible. Steve Armstrong found an Old St Louis Beer OI in Montana - that was a long way from home.

Mark Bryant from Utah dug lots of rare OIs in Utah but never any good cones. Becker's cones are always fun.

I Couldn't remember where Regan found his but knew it was somewhere out that way. I say head to Montana. Or wherever the Butte L.P.'s are  LEON.
