I know absolutely zero about the Regal India Ale so I looked it up. Wow, the book can isn't so hot so it must be super tough. Congrats!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
bought these yesterday along with another RB'er, picked them up today. Many cans were offered online by the auction company months after an on-site auction had less examples of the same labels- and they went cheaper online. Bjorn

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Thanks to the Good Guys at Beer Cans plus, this beauty just arrived. Unlisted version: "First American Rule of Michigan-1796" Glad they take credit cards, because I have been on a buying binge lately! Now just need three more known Altes Sportsman:
USBC 30-30 "Michigan's highest Point..."
USBC 30-36 "Spanish flag..."
Unlisted "First Lansing Capital"
I have a couple that I would like to upgrade too including 30-34 "Muskellunge Life Span 10-15 years" and 30-33 "Michigan ranks 7th in population"
If anybody has one of these cans available PLEASE let me know! Trying very hard to get'em all. Even if you have one of these and don't want to sell it, I have two different on grade examples for trade. So maybe you can upgrade your Altes Sportsman with a different version.

Alex,
I check their site at least a couple times a day, and that one was already sold the first time I saw it. I'm glad you got it.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
My ignorance is shining through on this one. I didn't even realize that the Altes Sportsman was a set can. I had seen a few here and there, one at a time singles, but never realized that it was a set of cans. I guess that I just don't pay that much attention outside of my target collection. I was just looking at the usbc at all the different varieties listed therein, and have to admit that all the different "useless michifacts" are kind of neat. It's a shame that all the cans have the same appearance, instead of a little variety like say the esslinger's party quiz cans.
I only remember having one Altes can in my collection when I was a kid, and it was that can that I traded to get my first Buckeye Beer can for my collection, and it's that trade that stands out as one of the most significant memories of collecting for me back then. Congrats on the new acquisition Alex. Good luck completing your set!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Thanks Marc and Phil I check the Beer Cans Plus website when I get an email about their updates, so not every day...but I was fortunate to be home shortly after they updated their site..I got an email, clicked the link right away and bought it. Good timing. I have seen a few Altes Sportsman available lately, but all have been ones I already have. So when I finally found a new version I had to jump on it right away.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Well, normally I don't trade out of my collection, but if I can trade a grade 5 USBC 30-30 "Michigan's highest Point..." for an ongrade Altes Sportsman, I might be tempted. If anybody has one of these cans available PLEASE let me know! Trying very hard to get'em all. Even if you have one of these and don't want to sell it, I have two different on grade examples for trade. Shook the toughies from the Rand-Me-Down OI tree, and the Bavarian is technically a Maier can. Funny that they kept the GB name.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
LOL yeah I am with you on this issue, whether buyer or seller once the auction starts place your bids and let it finish. If for no other reason than it puts those of us who actually do follow ebays rules at a disadvantage when deals are cut behind the scenes. Heck you may get a better deal in the auction than what you wanted to offer the seller anyway.
Edit to stay on topic I got this guy in the mail from Ted Larsen on Wednesday. Love these old cans with cartoon like graphics, I have been coveting one of these for a while.

One of the classic cans in the hobby for sure, and I figured it wouldn't last long after the recent price drop.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I've been mining eBay and rusty bunchers lately for new cans, here's my new additions for the month.
I don't normally collect currents but the one shown is from a recent trip to Costa Rica, its an imperial and is a local brew.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Normally I try to put my greatest focus on Fox Deluxe Grand Rapids when it comes to breweriana but I came across this Goebel Goe-Pak recently on ebay and I could not resist it. As you can see, it is from 1959 Detroit. It's amazing how much things can vary in price based on the brewery. I paid $20 plus shipping for this. If this was from Fox Deluxe Grand Rapids, I bet it would have gone over $100.
This cooler is sturdier than I expected. I assumed the sides would be soft and the whole thing would collapse if necessary. Actually, the sides are quite sturdy. I assume there is corrugated cardboard inside the walls but it must be pretty thick.

Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.
