Grand Opening!

#1

Post by Canadacan »

Grand Opening indeed!....last night while searching the archives for other soda can related ads I discovered this glorious ad! :smt007
The cans came in straight side and crimped from Continental Can Co. plant #483, at this time I do not know if plant #59 made the tape top.
This opening style was short lived and only lasted till late 1977 or maybe early 1978.

Coke tape top-The Chilliwack Progress 12 May 1976 Wed.-......source newspapers dot com.

Here are several cans I have, the two Coke variations are only marked CC, the rest that are shown have the #483 code.

This is the backs of the two SunPac's marked with the #483 plant code.

They were strange to drink from!....I distinctly remember as a kid the soda would more so kind of bubble out instead of flow :smt005

It depends on condition for one thing...a standard can is only $5-10, then if it's a promotional can they are worth a bit more, there are some that fetch as much as 300-500!...those are the ones from the Continental Can Co. board member meeting, they are pretty rare...that one is pictured in the coke can archive.

Check that Coke with a magnifier!...could be? .... also check that 7up, the code should be to the lower left of the white UPC code.

Part of my "strange tab top" collection. There were several different styles used that I've seen on cans. I believe the majority of these were never marketed and were used just for testing. I have several tops that have notes written on them with temp and pressure data.

Hey Kurt, went to a sale of a container division employee and found some rocket bottoms with test tops, also some 8oz. softcross. No 12oz'ers. Getting closer though. They all had beer in them and some still do- need any? Bjorn

Thanks for keeping me in mind! I do not need any of those. All were pretty popular styles. Not sure on value as most folks don't care much about weird tops....let alone aluminum Miller cans!
