Soda Cans and Wine Cone Tops
So are you soda guys sick of being hit up for free information? If not, please help me get an idea of what these are worth. The Asian Coke can is cool because it's a flat top... also happens to be full. The other Coke is Canadian. The others speak for themselves... Price help in the condition shown? Also, does anyone collect soda aluminum cans and if so, are there any cans worth more than say $5-10? Thanks for the help! -Mike

Mike, PM you about the cans, certain cans can go from $1 all the way up to a couple of hundred for certain alu cans.
If you have pics, please send em to me and I will let you know.
BTW PM about the two Cokes, I would love to get those since I try to specialize in Japanese cans.

Re: Soda Cans and Wine Cone Tops
It seems to me that the vast majority of aluminum sodas that are worth keeping are those from the 1960's when aluminum was a new thing. These often will say "New! All Aluminum Can!" or something similar. Pepsi and Coke both played around with aluminum in the 60's and most of those are definitely worth something.

However, the majority of what i have tried to sell - does not sell. I have recycled a bunch of these aluminum cans.

Re: Soda Cans and Wine Cone Tops
That is highly uncommon for that price... You got lucky..
I would have said $1 for those at the most

Actually, I was told about two years ago that some of the odd Pepsi flavors, the two "berry" ones in particular, could fetch as much as $30 each. The Crystal Pepsi is in the same vein.
Many international buyers will purchase older odd flavors in aluminum.

Re: Soda Cans and Wine Cone Tops
better long term potential on the short lived 80s soda cans - I think - how many of those are around now (with all of you guys recycling them) - how many are in excellent shape - now how many white Rheingold flats are around (ok - beer to soda) - better example - how many diamond cokes are around - 1960s may look "cool and vintage" and 1980s may look "bleech" now- but in 50 years its all going to look "really old" - granted 50 years is a lot - but - then again - Im coming at things from a 'saving something that is seldom saved' angle - (with the chip bags and etc) - the current stuff is probably going to be rarest of all because they change flavors every week and every brand has 20 different flavors now- its nuts - you need a warehouse.....

Re: Soda Cans and Wine Cone Tops
your right ,, collect the un collectable stuff,,,even beer and soda cans use to be trash? ,,,,,,,,and we know aluminum cans are not landfilled anymore so they will become even more scarce than old flat tops ,,everone saves the old stuff,,we are crushing our own future in cans? 2c
till the next dump!

Re: Soda Cans and Wine Cone Tops
Id be saving more aluminums if they didn't take up so much space (thus the reason I collect "flat" stuff) - I saw a few energy drinks go for NUTTY prices - like a couple Monster cans that were from 5-10 years old and in THREE figures

Re: Soda Cans and Wine Cone Tops
Here is what I look for in early aluminum. Take a look at the aluminum cans pictured. their shape is not very curvy. Other than slight curves at the bottom and just before the lid it looks like it could be steel. This is how all the early first generation aluminum soda cans look. This was before they start optimizing the can for aluminum weight. I've found at least a half dozen brands like this. These will have no bar code, most will advertise "ALUMINUM", all are pull tabs or juice tabs (no stay tabs).

Re: Soda Cans and Wine Cone Tops
those are cool -
my point was - I think aluminums are tough to keep from damage - and - while most soda can guys are hung up on barcodes and zipcodes *now* - to newer collectors in the very near future- its all just going to look old and dated - at some point its all going to be pretty rare - and more so in good shape -
if I had unlimited storage space I would be saving a lot of the weird energy drinks - a lot of weird newer cans in general - almost too many brands to pay attention to compared to when I was a kid - I would avoid all the sets (everybody collects sets) and look for things that say "new" on them - though - if you are strictly thinking investment - do what Im doing and flatten out cereal boxes, etc - the price curve is much steeper - or go around to various gas stations, fast food places and ask for all the various signage, translites, etc - and store them away - they roll out products so fast and then they are gone again in an instant - and you "can't find* that stuff from 20 (or even 10) years ago - unless its a cartoon/movie tie in -
anyways - a little off topic - but maybe it will spark a few ideas - its fun to collect what a lot of other people collect ..but its profitable to save what everybody tosses.....

There is a collection being sold and all but a few cans are going with the collection. This actually isn't being included in the collection. I'm just writing down offers on it and will give all offers to owner. -Mike
