World's Largest Bicycle Collection, Pittsburgh, PA

More and more I'm interested in collectors' minds and how they learn and remember and completely geek out on something that is of negligible interest or value to the other members of our species. So I'm interested in other collections. Went to Jeff Lebo's for the fifth or sixth time this spring.
This year I went to a couple big-money collections -- Marjorie Meriweather Post's Hillwood Estate in DC (a collector of, among other things, French painting and plates and china from across Europe and Asia):
https://www.hillwoodmuseum.org/estate
and the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan, which bills itself as the largest auto collection in the world:

Both are wonderful and insane.

Just before Christmas we went to BICYCLE HEAVEN in Pittsburgh's North Shore, right up against the river. The pictures are gonna begin to tell the story. It is FREE, it is OPEN LATE, and it is MADNESS, and you know I mean that as praise. It's the work of one guy who has let his bicycle shop also become a collection. He has something on the order of four thousand bikes. He has them all in his head, he says -- doesn't have a spreadsheet, doesn't need a computer to keep track. He sees a bike and he knows whether he needs it.

This is a highly recommended stop if you're going through Pittsburgh, people. Talk to Craig if he's in there, and I'd guess he's gonna be in there. He's an affable guy and he's a kindred spirit to all of us.
