I is autographed by Stan Lee AND he tore the cover. He apologized in writing while autographing it.

Was the friend simply showing it to you or did you buy it?

I wonder how the tear impacts the value. Normally, it would of course bring the value down but since Stan Lee did it and noted it when he signed it, maybe it would actually increase the value. I have no idea.

Don't know squat about comic books so I did some searching. (I know my niece has Stan lee's signature. I forget how much she paid to stand in line for hours to get it!) I found one story that he charged $40 to $100 for these autographs sessions. I'm thinking that there's so many autographs out there that he's somewhat devalued his own signature.

I think that the issue Jack is holding becomes more valuable because of the provenance behind it. Stan tears it. Apologizes for it through his signature. Makes that a unique issue in and of itself.

Pinnacle project- I did not buy it.
MI-Cans- he did sign many items. I just thought of the only time I would ever hold a #1 issue. I better get a photo of it.

If you have any interest at all in comic books or pop culture, Motor City Comicon in Novi, MI starts today and runs all weekend. It's worth the price of admission to people-watch in my opinion, and you'll see comic books priced in five, and probably six, figures. Stan Lee was the big guest several years back. I don't know what he charged for autographs, but I do recall that he was popular enough that he didn't do them in person. You paid in advance, Stan signed in advance, and you picked it up at the show. People stood in line for four hours or more to meet him. The wait was similar for Carrie Fisher, but she did sign in person. The only autograph I've ever paid for was when Barbara Eden was at Motor City Comicon a few years back. Here she is signing for me. She was 86 years old then . . . who knew she was 35 (and pregnant) when I Dream Of Jeannie began.

Oh, and for those who looked at the grading and values of the Spider-Man #1, the Good grade starts at 2.0. If you wondered why values aren't higher, Spider-Man first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 and the values are considerably higher for that comic.
