Re: RIP Tom Petty
Sad, sad, sad. Jane and I just saw him a week ago today at the Hollywood Bowl - his last show. I paid a lot for the tix but he's been on Jane's bucket list for years and I finally decided it was time to pull the trigger. He was lively and energetic - no sign of sickness or fatigue. Another great for Heaven's all star band.

Saw them twice in Cleveland in the '70's. Music Hall '78 and Palace Theatre in '79.

Re: RIP Tom Petty
Sat and drank beer with Tom Petty at the Golden Spur, which was the on-campus bar at the University of South Carolina, in 1979, possibly early 1980. I was there to see George Thorogood, who was the opening act. Of course I had heard of Tom Petty, he had at least one, if not two, fairly big albums out by then, but I was a huge Thorogood fan. One of my buddies ran the lights at the club, and he let me backstage with the admonition that I had to sit quietly stage left, except when I had to go get him and I another beer. This kinda skeletal looking dude came and sat next to me, was filching the beers that I had stockpiled for my buddy and myself. I thought he was one of Thorogood's roadies, so I sort of let it slide. We sat and talked, rocked out to Thorogood's set, then he thanked me for the beers and got up and went onstage. I had no idea that it was Tom Petty until he started singing. It was a great show, by the way.

Re: RIP Tom Petty
I have seen TP in concert 22 times since 1981 most recently this past July 15th at the ACC in Toronto. Besides my family his music has been the one constant in my life since I was 15 in 1978. Thankfully his music will live on!! RIP T.P.
