Now, there was a race car driver.

Danny, just fixing it for you so he is pictured with an actual race car.

Buddy drove the 21 Wood Brothers' car 1n 1983-84.

I looked up his car numbers. Click to enlarge.
Buddy Baker.jpg
The first race I saw him in was at Michigan (06-07-70) where he finished 7th driving the #6, Cotton Owens' car.

Buddy was the first to break the 200 mph barrier. Here's a video:

He only had 19 wins in a 35 year career but he was fun to watch every week. He was part of the old NASCAR that I enjoyed and followed religiously.

They can keep the current crap the call racing.

Edited 1 time to add all his car numbers 8-10-15

I saw Buddy win his last race in the # 21 Wood Brothers Ford at the 1983 Firecracker 400. I also saw Petty win it in 1984, his last win .

That's pretty awesome.

I was a Petty fan from the age of seven. But if he didn't win, I always cheered for Buddy Baker.

Always cheered against David Pearson and the Allisons. I guess that's racing.

My favorite picture of Buddy on the wing of the Dodge Daytona engineering test car at the Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, MI. I like his shoes.......

One of the tests they would do is a "rolling resistance" test where you would get up to a certain speed on the oval (I think 100mph), shut the engine off, and let the car coast down to a stop. The farther the car rolled, the better the rolling resistance. I read an interview with Buddy where he described the sound of the non-winged Charger as it coasted by just after shutdown as sounding like the "roar of a car that was still running as it blasted through the air". The Daytona wing car with the nose cone was almost silent and went by with a smooth "whooshing sound".

I remember him in a cool early 1970's movie called CORKY. Anybody else ever see this obscure movie? LEON.
