Re: big fish...
I missed the TAT show in Green Bay but I was able to escape for an afternoon of paddling on one of my favorite trout waters near Madison, WI. It's not 'in the book' of regulations so I never see anybody out here, maybe the sign keeps them away.
One of my favorite old bridges, tough to get to but it pays off. a really nice 20" slammed my custom Panther Martin on the first cast! showing my fisherees biologist brother my new fish pose, modeled after his two new tattoo's. I fired the cameraman again. He loves square tails- Bjorn- Flat_Top

Was able to get the canoe out and slay a few Oregon rainbows yesterday. My non-fishing friend even managed to land one....

Re: big fish...
Few smallish brook trout in April. Finally got the boat out (Lake Erie) last week. Windy and cold all day long with only a few small panfish in the livewell. Finally (on the way in) we were drifting and my partner screams FISH ON!!! 5 MINUTES INTO HIS (ultra light tackle) FIGHT, I HOOK AND LAND A 16" Smallie.... GAME ON! From 5:30 to 6:45 PM we landed close to 30 Bass ... the smallest was 15" big-un was up to close to 20" all were released unharmed. all were caught casting to the same spot (anchored) The best action in my fishing career!

Re: big fish...
finally..... gamefish season is open in WI. went out Sat. nite for a little waldo action on the mighty Yahara River.
and then snuck out this afternoon for a little paddle down the Root to an old quarry that sees very little fishing pressure- rare in Mil. I could see color in a ravine as I paddled (middle of the first pic) turned out to be a huge Texaco sign still half buried, kinda' roached- I'll go back. fiat128 do you dump cranes? Bjorn- jomama

Re: big fish...
Illegally stocked in the Susquehanna River drainage (Harrisburg, Pa.) They are native to the Ohio River system.... Flathead Catfish are taking over as the King of the river. Not just size, but in popularity with many folks practicing catch + release.

Re: big fish...
Great insight! They use large bluegill for bait. But the fish are only ugly on the outside. The best catfish I ever ate was a flathead. But it was taken in 38 degree crystal-clear water in late winter. That one did weigh 16 pounds. I'd still rather eat this one.. March 30, 2016 New Pa. State record. just under 16 inches ... just under 3 poundshover31 wrote:ugh, nasty. Say 'goodbye' to the bluegill population. I'd sooner eat crow than one of those- Bjorn

I got the kid out yesterday to a favorite spot of mine on the Colorado River. She proceeded to outfish me with her pink Shakespeare spinner.

Re: big fish...
Way to go KB! COOL boat!
We gave up black bass fishing so far this year because of the incredible white bass action in a spot that I found and have had all to myself (2 years so far). But now we have filled 3 freezers .... Time to move on to catch+release and let the spot alone to next year.

Re: big fish...
I just got back from a four day backpack trip into the Weminuche Wilderness in southern Colorado. My bro and I camped about ten miles up the Los Pinos River and had a great time catching Browns, Rainbows and Brookies. Those wild trout really fight (and taste good).

Re: big fish...
JULY 19TH WILD RAINBOW TROUT 15ft deep suspended in 50 ft of water (Lake) .... Best trout we ever had for dinner ... looked and tasted like salmon
The west USA guys probably have this all the time? (wild trout are special in Pa.) Now we're going to try similar lakes with the same techniques ... In search of hidden gems!

You may remember Spicoli from Pike Patrol, we had a couple short strikes so a large 'Norski Nailer' with trailer was the key. Bjorn

nice 34" eater on one of my Norski Nailer trailer buxtail- cameraman got fired again. I found a neat Jung seltzer on the way home. The map shows the spot, it'll just get better as things heat up, expect some monster fish -Bjorn
