Post by keithker »

The BCCA CANvention committee has secured another hotel in the immediate area with a discounted rate for those wanting to attend CANvention 50. Details are available on the BCCA webpage and an eblast will be released soon.

You must be logged onto the BCCA webpage to access the details.

Also, be sure to use the link provided to the hotel to secure your room.

I just booked with the Magnolia. I couldn't get Saturday night, I couldn't get two double beds. I couldn't get a rollaway. I've got either a queen or a king, but they can't tell me which.
Brian and I are from W Va, so by law we are cousins, but still...............spooning him for 4 days (or him spooning me, i guess we'll have to alternate) isn't how we would prefer to spend our canvention time. I doubt we'll be sleeping in.
Nevermind that now we're both going to fly and bring nothing, rather than have tables.
I hope for a high waitlist spot, and a main hotel cancellation that we queue up to soon enough to get us in the main hotel,
and preclude me booking a flight. Not that I'm wishing any ill on anyone who's already booked.

I think it is great that they have booked an overflow hotel, but I wish they had done it three months earlier. I have made other commitments for that weekend so I won't be making it to St. Louis assuming it is still a go by September. I hope everybody has a good time and brings back some nice cans and breweriana for the rest of us to drool over. Hope to see everyone in Norfolk in '21!

I had not planned on going as this year the finances just didn't work out. Something came up recently that may make it possible. Checked last night, nothing left in the block. Other rooms available, but over 50% more expensive. Hoping they come up with more rooms in the block.

My crystal ball said it was 50/50 that CanV would be a go from the beginning of all the lockdowns, and nothing that has occurred since then has changed my thought. Even if the City/county/state allowed it, I'd expect that any remaining social distancing requirements and other caveats could make it less than attractive. I already know people in my circle that go to most or all of the CanVentions that indicate that they will not go anyway. Rooms could actually become easy to find, due to changes in the MLB schedule and changes in other organization's convention plans. I have a room for Tuesday through Sunday at the Marriott, and I will hold onto my reservation until I know the particulars. I'm sure that Dave will make the decision looking at potential costs to the club associated with postponing CanV and eating any nonrefundable charges, and in hosting it with fewer (or even far fewer) attendees and losing money as a result.

I too have a room.....Check-in: Sep 9 ....Check-out: Sep 12

However I am convinced I won't be going because of all the risk of death stuff.....so really don't need to know any more particulars.

As a result, I believe I saw somewhere that someone was coordinating/gathering up all the abandoned reservations like mine. Does anyone know who that was? Would like to toss it back into the pool.....

While I am excited for my first Canvention, if it is going to be scaled back I would just prefer they push it back a year.

I am anxious for this Canvention. I really need to get out and do some shows, but do not want to do it if I am putting other collectors or myself at risk. Right now, I have no hotel reservations and do not plan to make any until at least August - even if I have to stay at some no tell motel 50 miles away.

Keith, I would suggest that the BCCA start active discussions with the hotels and convention center on how we might defer the show for a year. Not that you execute on the deferral, just to explore options.

My 2 cents.

I have no vested interest in the CANv since I don't travel. I was just curious how other major organizations were handling things. Here's what I found on the NABA and ABA sites.

I got an email from Beer Dave yesterday.
He has asked if anyone who decides to cancel their Canvention trip would please let him know before cancelling their rooms in the main hotel.
That way, someone else could have that reservation. Dave said if you cancel directly with the hotel, the BCCA has lost that room from their block, and it won't be available to anyone else at the block rate.
So, if you decide to abort the mission, please let Dave know first.

If Canvention is a go in some form, I will be there. If it is not, I would really appreciate as much advance notice as possible so I can make other plans for my vacation.

I was just thinking how screwy this year is- usually by now, I have made my travel plans and booked my van and hotel rooms, and I am starting to look for places to eat and touristy stuff to do. All I have reserved is my room in St. Louis. I am holding off for a while until the future is clearer. Hope it doesn't cost me big.
