Jan 9 Update Hotel for CANvention 50

#1

Post by keithker »

The latest word is that the BCCA CANvention committee will be meeting with the hotel on Jan 18, 2020 to coordinate the opening of additional blocked room.

I'll provide any additional details provided prior to and after the meeting when available.......

Based on all information available, it doesn't appear any more rooms will become available at the Marriott anytime soon, so I am giving up on the idea of making it to St. Louis. I hope everybody who had the foresight to register early has a great time and a great show. Hopefully, I can catch up with everybody in Norfolk in '21.

I am sure there will be an overflow hotel a block or less away. We had an overflow at the CANvention in Cincinnati 6-7 years ago and it worked at well.
Since this is the last largest CANvention probably in our life time, It be a shame to miss it do to lodging logistics.

I live here in St Louis. There are at least a dozen hotels within a dozen blocks of the a Marriott downtown. I can’t speak to the costs. However, if you go a half mile to a mile west or south of the Marriott, I am sure there are are number of reasonably priced hotels that are not in the downtown space.

I really appreciate the suggestions, but it doesn't make sense for us to travel close to 1000 miles with a ton of cans and breweriana and be blocks or miles away from the action. It is really ok because I got a music festival to go to instead and that will be fun. I will miss seeing everyone and not taking part in the 50th, but there will be other Canventions in the future.

I made reservations over 6 weeks ago for Monday and Tuesday night account nothing available for Wed. through Sat. night. I was hoping Wed. through Sat. would open up. I will probably just cancel those two nights. My wife has rheumatoid arthritis so we don't want to stay several blocks away at a different hotel. I will just wait another year for attending the Canvention. Hope every body has a good time!

@Tom Clark If you reach out to Beer Dave he will ensure your remaining nights are addressed. He is hacking through the list of folks that already booked earlier in the week but need the remaining nights. Please don't be discouraged. If you need his contact information, please let me know.

I'm in the same boat as these guys. I started trying to reserve a room within 2 days of the hotel announcement and couldn't get anything after Thursday night. So I'm most likely out as well. I think I would rather spend my limited vacation days in the woods dumping anyway.

I hope people who have decided to opt out of this Canvention will reconsider and stay at an alternate nearby hotel. Once this event is over, and everybody is talking about it, I really believe anybody who was not there will regret it. Without a doubt staying elsewhere will not be optimal but I am sure it will be better than missing the event entirely.

Another option that may or may not work for people to stay someplace other than downtown and take the MetroLink downtown. I am going to stay at my brother's house. To save on parking costs, I will probably get on the MetroLink at Lambert Airport and take it downtown to the convention station. No traffic headaches, not parking fees. If this sounded good to somebody, they could stay at a near limitless number of hotels, drive or walk over to the nearest MetroLink station (I believe parking is free in Metro lots) and then take it downtown. No doubt this solution could present challenges but it would be better than missing the event entirely.

Here you can see three options with direct access to the Marriott and the Convention Center. Embassy, Holliday Inn and Courtyard...

I checked the Courtyard by Marriott and the rates for that time is almost $300 a night. I imagine the rest of the downtown hotels will be comparable. Sorry, but that is not affordable for most of us. Thanks for looking though.

I have to agree here. Good lord, we're only about to go into February here. September is a LONG time away to be hitting the panic button and giving up on what is certain to be the epic Canvention of all time. This is going to be the one that if you miss it, you will regret it for many years to come.

If we can't get any more rooms at the Marriott, I have full faith in Beer Dave to work a great deal with other hotels that are within easy walking distance to the main hotel. He always seems to come through with a solution. Josh found three- one of them is part of the Marriott family, so I'm sure something can be worked out. Yes it sucks not being at the main hotel, but for a show as big as this one should be- there isn't one hotel big enough to hold it all anyway.

I would really hate to see any of y'all miss out on what is sure to be the party of the millennium. Bunch of y'all I haven't seen in a while, and I would hate to lose that chance. Have faith in Beer Dave, and give him some time to try to find extra rooms in the area. Basic point here is there is a LOT of time between now and Canvention, and something will almost certainly happen to work things out.

Not quite but pretty close. Here are the hours for the station adjacent to the convention center.

https://www.metrostlouis.org/metrolink- ... r-station/

Here are the hours to get me all the way out to Lambert.

I did not look at all of the stations but I assume the train is stopping regularly between these two extremes.

The problem will be that the Cubs are in town playing their rivals the Cardinals that weekend.
Hotels normally jack prices way up when the Cubs are in town.
