If that happens, at least book enough damn rooms!

Maybe I am being prematurely optimistic but I do not see Canvention getting canceled. It is still over five months away. I think things will improve significantly by then. In fact, I bet SummerSwap will go on as planned in July.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

2023 Shows Attended

* Michigan Chapter Winterfest, January 14, Frankenmuth Michigan
* Cabin Fever Reliever, February 24, Mishawaka Indiana
* Buckeye, March 11, Toledo Ohio
* SummerSwap, July 21 & 22, Frankenmuth Michigan

With the Baseball season getting postponed, there is a big chance the Cubs won't be in town for Canvention which should open up rooms in the hotel!

The Canvention committee should be proactive in sucking them up...

Scott,
We are out in front on this issue. If the MLB season gets realigned, then that could be a game changer in getting more rooms at the Marriott or any of the other 3 properties that are within a block of the Marriott.
Stay tuned, MLB needs to make the first move.......

Not to be a Debbie downer, but if MLB cancels the season, that will probably mean our convention will most likely be cancelled as well. Crowds are crowds gathered together, doesn't matter if it is in a stadium or at a convention. I sincerely hope I am wrong though

I think if the baseball season gets cancelled, it won't because of the danger the virus presents in September, but rather what is going on in May and June when the decision has to be made. If that is the case, then cancellation of the baseball season will not necessarily affect whether the Canvention goes on or not. However, assuming it is a go, the show will be negatively affected and we will not see the numbers that we could have seen if everything had gone normally from the beginning and the damn virus hadn't shown up.

Chris, On MSNBC today, the mayor of Washington DC said modeling tells her, her peak will not hit until the June/July range.

Also the mayor of Chicago said she will not send people back to work, until they are all tested. She said no one could live with themselves, if people were told it was ok to return to work and then a whole lot died, due to a lack of testing and stopping social distancing.

@ThreeRing And for Charlie, UMBC has cancelled their commencement ceremonies. Waiting for Univ of MD to do the same.

My two cents is that baseball will play an abbreviated season of some sort. WAY too much money involved to just cancel the season, unless events leave them with no alternative. Easiest thing to do is pick a date to start once this insanity starts to settle down, and just leave all games as scheduled from that point. Remember, schedules are set against other things going on at the ballparks and at nearby arenas or stadiums that could really affect parking for the games, especially once the NFL is playing, which hopefully will happen on time. Depending on how many games they wind up playing, MLB may decide to juggle the schedule as they can to leave the key matchups that fans want to see.

Let's remain optimistic that whatever MLB winds up doing, things are back to normal far enough before September to allow more of us to be able to make the trip for Canvention.

In previous years when baseball has played an abbreviated schedule, they deliberately loaded the schedule with games within the divisions. I expect they would do so again, and this does not bode well as the Cubs and Cardinals are in the same division. However, this would not necessarily mean that the Cubs would play in St. Louis on that particular weekend.

As a Reds fan the 81 split seasons still pisses me off. I could do with a half season this year though. The worst part would be not being able to see the Reds when they come to DC, as that's scheduled early in the season. But a half season playing mostly the rest of the Central? I could get with that.
