Pretty common for MI, but definitely a weird find for PA. And just for the record, these also came in quart bottles.

If you never heard of Vernor's then you must never have tried the stuff. The product as produced in Detroit was incomparable - very edgy ginger ale aged in wood barrels. The carbonation would blow your head apart, like Chinese mustard or something. Popular stuff in that area when we were kids; my cousins and I would each get a bottle, take our first sips on the count of three, and have a contest to see who flinched first.

The brand was eventually commercialized and is now sold by Pepsi, I think. Still buy it from time to time, but it ain't the same anymore. Not even close.

When we were growing up, a trip to grandma's always included having a glass of Vernor's.
The carbonation was unreal, like fizz fireworks going off in your eyes. And the flavor was unmistakeable. Your right Dave, the Vernor's today, is nothing like the ginger ale of old.

I'm no Michigan man(go Bucks! ) but Vernors :smt049 is/was the best pop growing up. Like all Pop mfg's back in the day they switched from sugar to corn syrup in production to sweeten the product and they just don't taste the same. Some plants in Mexico still use sugar and bottle in glass. There is a little Mexican grocery store here in Toledo that gets Coke and pepsi in glass bottles, If you have a store like that in your location check it out.
Like stated above if you haven't had Vernors you don't know what your missing - How many of you Vernors drinkers when taking the first sip inadvertently inhale and the carbonation almost takes you breath away and you have to cough? Vernors and vanilla ice cream :smt026 :smt026 . I don't drink much other that beer but Vernors and Canadian Club - :smt030 +++++

I've found several Vernors quart bottles at the huge dump on my aunts property on the OH/PA line. If they are clean they sell pretty well.

From what I remember back in the early 70's, the taste was like raw ginger and cinamon mixed in a bottle of the over the top carbonation the others spoke of. During Red Wings games on Fox Sports, Mickey Redmond still recalls fond memories of days in Detroit with the Red Wings enjoying a Vernors Ginger Ale back in the day.

Yeah, baby! The very best part of going to Gramma's house was the after dinner treat, and you just nailed it. Other than the odd outing to A&W drive-ins, we as kids barely knew the meaning of "root beer float." Vernor's was superior and turned even the most boring ice cream into a living thing. Mmmm...

The flat tops they produced seem to hold up well, even in southern Michigan. They must have produced these into the early 1970's as I recall finding this Vernor's flat in 1976 near the Michigan/Ohio border and the lids were still shiny. I think Leon has found some of these recently in Hell.

not a Michigan guy, but here's my only Vernor's ...

...

found this can in a partially dried lake-bed in central Colorado a few years back

the guy on the front has a cool two-colored beard ... and I like their adverstising "It's differ"

looks like it got sun faded before getting buried in the muck

Leon - what's the deal with those skinny Vernor's cans? Are they 10 ounce? I've found several different 12oz flats/tabs along the way, but I don't remember the small ones. They're pretty neat.
