The first White Rock Series
I have a question about the White Rock cans too.
The earliest cans list "Five Favorite Flavors" Black Cherry, Orange, Root Beer, Cola & Lemon Lime. An almost identical set changes to "Six Favorite Flavors" adding Ginger Ale to the list. Do we know when each series appeared? Shouldn't these have differing ID numbers too? Also, my Lemon-Lime is a "Rock Up" and it is a Six flavors version, is the Five flavors version the one pictured without "Rock Up?"
Don't get me wrong - I am not complaining - not in the least. I am thrilled that such a reference list exists. I am only looking to debate and possibly improve the systems in the coming editions. I love the details and the organization that is involved!

Re: The first White Rock Series
Wow - never noticed that... I don't have examples of both in my collection at this time. Could you send a front/back pic of each to get me started? I will definitely make this distinction.
Thanks!
Dave

Re: The first White Rock Series
Sorry for the delayed post...
Originally they issued Five Flavors...Black Cherry, Orange Root Beer, Cola and Lemon Lime.
Later they added Ginger Ale.
And as you can see, these are still from the same basici design...
From the same Bottler...

Re: The first White Rock Series
Not sure where this fits into the White Rock series but this ad was printed May 26 1960 and shows 7 flavors.
Most wanted can finally found!

Re: The first White Rock Series
As you can see, the Lemon Lime Rock Up that I have is a Six Flavors and is like the one pictured in the book (W380-2A). I wonder if the Five Flavors can is the one pictured in the book without the "Rock Up" (W380-2A) or the one that just says "Up" with Lemon Lime in a semi-circle (W380-2C).
And this brings up the question.... Why, when two cans that are clearly different are they given the same number - W380-2A. That is too confusing.

Re: The first White Rock Series
Nice ad! The only Seven Flavors can (when they added Grape) that I have is this two sided metallic can...
As you can see it is a Juice Tab.

Re: The first White Rock Series
I have a two faced White Rock quinine water, does this even count as a soda can? At first I thought it was a cure for malaria but they tout it as a great mixer for gin, vodka, etc.... Same basic label as Pokey's metallic grape juice tab but this is an enamel yellow flat. Strange can.

Re: The first White Rock Series
White Rocks seem to be found just about everywhere. The 5 flavor series we've dug out here, and going by the can co. logos, the 5 flavors date to the mid 50's. I kinda like the Pacific Can Co. cans, they sure hold up well when found in pits out here.

Don't have any extras right now, but we seem to dig them alot. We're still a month or so away from being able to go into the mountains and detect.
