Hey - good pick up. That was the actual can that is listed as an R0 - the only known example! Too bad it's so rough!

So a one of a kind soda sells for five bucks becuause it has some rust. If this were a beer can it would go for 100x that amount. Is the soda community so turned off to rust that this can is almost worthless because it is not not on-grade?

Off-grade soda's, with some exceptions, have not done real well. I think that some of it that people don't always notice them - generation type, etc... Also, Ebay does not make it real easy to always find soda cans... Beer cans have specific listings by origin and type - not so for soda. It's still possible to pick up very tough cans cheap. I didn't even realize this can was listed until I saw it here. A few of us do have off grade cans in our collections - I would have liked this one!
Happy Holidays!

Look at the auction the seller set the price with a buy it now.

I do doubt it would have gone much higher though as there just isn't the number of soda can collectors (under 50 in the NPCC) as there are beer can collectors (over 4000 in the BCCA). This helps to explain the difference in pricing. Although the NPCC has been in existence for 30+ years not much was documented on cans as the number of members was never significant enough to print books. While there were a few books printed from Paul and Tom Bates along with Betty Toepfer (spelling?) these books weren't widely available in book stores unlike the early beer can books.

A few of us have been trying to document the cans (most notably Dave Tanner) but with our numbers dwindling I'm not sure if it is worth the effort anymore so my website may go away at the end of my current hosting contract.
Most wanted can finally found!
