Donald Ducks

Here's a pic of my Donald Duck cans. I just added six more flat tops and should have a nearly complete set of the flat tops, except for any other black bills that are out there.

WOW!! Now that is an impressive Donald Duck collection. Do you have close ups of the variations? I had not noticed the different hats on the conetops. Now that I see your collection, I noticed that my Orange Soda has the red-blue hat, while the other 4 have the blue-light blue hats.

How many of the conetops were made with the red-blue hats?

Pokey,

I added another pic of the just the cone tops. The hats are different colors, but notice the borders also (with the thick black lines and yellow vs. the thin lines). I sure could use one of the Strawberry cones! I'll try to add some pics of the flats later.

So it looks like they made one set of cones to look exactly like the flats - red-blue hat and thin lines while the second set diverges and uses the thick black line with yellow border and the blue-light blue hat. Do we know which set came first? And what flavors were available in each set? As I understand it on the flats; the "Minimum Contents..." cans came out in 1957 and the ones without are from 1958. Is that accurate?

I believe those dates are inaccurate. This ad appeared in the June 02, 1955 edition of the Waukesha Daily Feeman, Waukesha Wisconsin.

The minimum contents cans were pictured in the 1954 booklets. The second one is dated Sept. 19, 1954. The flat tops did not appear in the first booklet published earlier in 1954. It appears the contents version followed 2-3 years later.
Hope this helps,
Dave
