Re: One of a kind soda cans
Hi Andy,
I wouldn't call these a rarity, but they are a tough can and represent the first generation of Gayla cans. The book list them at $50-60. They are pretty hard to find on-grade. Any other thoughts from the gallery?
Hope this helps,
Dave T

Re: One of a kind soda cans
I don't know if we actually know how many Food Club Gayla or just plain Gayla cans there are in collections. The can is unremarkable and who really pays attention to them when viewing a collection? I know I don't they are the Rodney Dangerfield of soda can collecting.
Most wanted can finally found!
Re: One of a kind soda cans
I dont know if it is One of a kind but here is a Click Root Beer that is not listed in the Soda Can Book.I have it listed on ebay now if anyone is interested.

Re: One of a kind soda cans
Heres 3 one of a kind soda cans? Maybe? Did not see these flavors in Tanners book? I assume only being lowly zip coded pull tab's these are now well known & just overlooked? Am I right or nobody seen these before? Let me know. LEON

Re: One of a kind soda cans
The Elf can is not a one of a kind, it's actually a fairly common can. I have had one pictured on my website for several years.

Re: One of a kind soda cans
Good morning Leon,
I have a pic of the Lawson's can - it just didn't make the book. The Peer generation, like the other are not rare cans. My opinion is it's just a flavor I didn't get a picture of. There are a lot of these in the mid/late 60's. Not a lot of collectors pay a great deal of attention to these, consequently, a lot of flavors are just not identified yet. Any other opinions?

Re: One of a kind soda cans
My two cents - yes, you are very accurate with your analogy Dan.
The pre zip code is the higher dollar "more desirable" can. However, even "serious" collectors add a few of the newer items to their shelves. I have quite a few cans with zip codes - even if they are only place-holders for their older pre-zip bretheren.
However, on an earlier post.... sometimes a flavor is found that has never been known - the 6 oz. Pineapple cone top C&C for example. Other times, it is just that the documetation has not been officially done. Documenting all of the different flavors is not an easy task - nor is it a very stimulating task. If you look at some of the store brands, they had every flavor known to man - plus a few.

Re: One of a kind soda cans
I only seen one of these Vernors in Soda Book. Mine both say the same thing on other back side, aged 4 months, ect, ect. But the other side list 2 different company's. Does anybody know if one is tougher then the other? Which one is in book? LEON.

Hi Leon,
That aspect of the hobby is in it's infancy. I don't have any ideas on this can.
Sorry...

Re: One of a kind soda cans
Originally it was the James Vernor Co., so I would believe that the can on the right is the older one. I cannot find when the name was changed to Vernor's Ginger Ale, Inc., but it appears to be in the 50's:
I have sent an inquiry to the Vernor's Ginger Ale Collectors Club Website, but I have not heard back from them, yet.
http://www.wowway.com/~vernors/index.html
This quote borrowed from the following website. The death of James Vernor II forced the company to sell some stock to the public. Possibly due to the fact that the company was no longer primarily in the hands of the family, or for some other corporate reason, in the late 1950's, Vernor's became Vernors. (Note the lack of the apostrophe between the 'r' and the 's'.)

Re: One of a kind soda cans
That sign was part of the factory, which ceased operations in 1985, was sold in 1986, and demolished sometime afterward. There is an apartment building for Wayne State University on the site now...
Out of my brain on the 515!
