So we headed out to test my theory. As we drove along I had Jim open an app on my phone that shows landowners property called onX Hunt. As we approached any bluffs close to the road that’s where I wanted to search first.
Finding an area that for the Bill we where able to park a quarter mile away or so beyond the search area. Within a few minutes a church keyed can shows up and then slowly one after another a can here a can there.
Enough can’s started showing and our short Winter day light cut out hunt short. The following Halloween Day found us back out there to continue where we left off.
The wife and I had to walk through snow for several minutes to get to where I think we left off as it snowed quite a bit so the cut I was looking for looked different. Eventually we found the spot and within a few minutes detecting the wife started finding Diet Dr Pepper can’s which we’ve never found before.
40 can’s or so later Jimmy finally arrives on scene to join in. By now to Jimmy and the wife it was cold and they made a fire while I kept digging and sweating.
Warming up Jimmy finally was ready to start exploring g towards the bluff we initially wanted to start at the weekend before. So you see we’ve been busy digging cans in a small area we never made it to the bluff. By now 4 hours has expired, wife got cod and went back to the car to stay warm while we explored. Just as it was getting dark we found four older flat tops of which one was a cone top and all are a mystery.
Now the mystery can turned out to be a Ballentine (1948-1950) thanks to several RB’ers who helped identify it.
After walking up the bluff to the highway we noticed we never made it to the Bluff that close to the road system where we want to search. Hopefully this weekend (7th of November) we can go in search as we have a heat wave and it’s going to be 21 degrees. Finally a warm day to dig. Enjoys the photos.
