New 1st Generation Polar Can

Here is a can produced by Polar Ginger Ale of Worcester, Mass. This predates the 1967 cans that were previously thought to be the 1st generation. They are produced by Polar Corp, which was renamed from Polar Ginger Ale in 1966 to expand the range of the brand from being perceived as ginger ale focused. This can probably dates from 1964-1965, based on lids and body weight. This is the first I've ever noticed - contents are on the side and seam. Anybody else have one of these?

Here are the only 3 I've dumped in Maine. The Orange is a juice tab & the other 2 are tabs. Haven't dug a flat. I grew up in Massachusetts and back in the 60's Polar Corp had a huge inflated polar bear on the roof of their building. It was the highlight of the ride thru Worcester. Steve

It still is the highlight of the trip through Worcester ... the Bear has been there since I can remember as well, at least back to the late 70's. Polar still sells very well in this area (I live about an hour from Worcester) and I think you can find it in most of New England--including up in Maine, right Steve?

Nice to see these tough cans going to good homes,,the polar was dug by don Raymond years ago,,Utah mark did some mail trades for the star banner ale cones and he sent it out along with them as i was asking about soda cans back then,,,, chateaudebris

Pete, yes Polar sodas are sold in Maine. I shop at Hannaford and all the Polar soda is in 1 & 2 liter bottles. No cans although I'm guessing it's still sold in cans just not at Hannaford. Steve
