7UP Rock Caps

#1

Post by Tinman »

In 1973 7UP ran this promo. Until this past summer I'd physically only seen one can (Diet) that I'd dumped a few years back. This past summer I was able to dump the 7UP variation.

Here's the poster that went with the promo,

A couple weeks back I was at a flea market and came across a box containing a bunch of lids. I brought them home and sorted them. Here's what I came up with....Seems I'm missing a member from each band....

Trust me, I checked my cans, the one I'm sending you, and all the others that I dumped this past summer....I think I'd be 40 years late to claim my prize.... Maybe it's because people cut the bottoms off is why these cans are so hard to locate in decent shape...... What I truly hope doesn't happen is a decent can shows up and it's one I need..... do I cut the bottom off to complete a group or keep a decent can..... I think it would be keep the decent can....Nope the poster doesn't belong to me.... It's a copy of the one on the April Wine web site....

It makes sense that you are missing one member. The one you are missing is probably the one that would make the set a winner, so they may hve only made one of them (except for Edward Bear and Crowbar they probably planned on multiple winners of those two prizes.)

That's some cool stuff! And April Wine rules!
Guess I'll have to dump Canada as I assume that is where the promotion was.

And don't forget...that 240Z is wrapped around an 8-Track Stereo! Sweet!

Hi Dave,

Yes, you are right. The lids you are missing were the ones to redeem for prizes and were therefore
issued in small quantities. I actually won this contest back in '73. I had the three members of Edward Bear
and they sent me the Guess Who album, "Artificial Paradise". I have all of the cap liners (as opposed to lids)
and a diet 7up carton advertising the contest. I don't have any of the short-printed people. I also don't have any
from Crowbar as my liners came from the Quebec version of 7up Rock Caps. They replaced Crowbar with Quebec
pop singers of the time.

Are your can lids for sale?

Cheers,
Terry

Hi Vinnie,

The French stars I have liners for are:

Michel Pagliaro
Renee Martel
Nicole Martin
Michel Pilon

I don't know who the missing one would be.

Hi Vinnie,

That's what I have. I've never seen the can bottoms with the French artists.
