JOCKO CAN?

Post by Leon »

Anybody ever see this Jocko Choclate before? Didn't see it in Daves book. I assume it's from Canada. Anybody know if rare or common? LEON.

I've not seen these before. Why do you assume that they are from Canada?

Because the guy that found them lives in Toronto & it's a 10ouncer like most canadian cans & the one in book is a Canadian 10 ouncer. All adds up to a good assumption I assume :smt017 Dave T. You out there? ever see one of these? LEON.

Here's the Jocko before & after Pics. Yeah, I know, probably not real interesting to most. Looks like a 7 3/4 ouncer instead of the 10 I though. Why not just make it a even 8, why 7 & 3/4? :smt017 Looks like made in Stratford Ontario but hard to read. LEON.

Hi There,
These are in fact a Canadian product, from the 70's, no longer in production. You might find a nostalgic buff, put em on Ebay. Very rare find indeed.....

My Dad was a salesman and brought a case of this home for us kids to try. I believe that was in 1970. It never really took off. I can still remember the taste, like chocolate milk with an aftertaste.

I have seen the 7 3/4 ounce version - there is also another generation. Can someone post pics of the 10oz example? I would have thought these were older than 1970.
Thx,
DT

I was over at my local dump across the road from my cabin last month and did a bit of digging in the seventies section for a change. I found these right on top, no digging required. This dump was last used around the mid seventies.
Jocko.jpg
I put a regular 10oz soda can behind to show that these are shorter than the normal.... I'd say the same size as a Carnation Milk can....
Jocko Back.jpg

I can make out mandatory on the backs and by using bits of both cans to distinguish the text "Made In Canada by Canada Dairies Corporation Ltd., Burgessville Ontario"

Back on topic, I believe that these Jocko cans may be related to each other, The two towns listed are about 30KM (20 miles) apart....right in the middle of the dairy capital area of Ontario. I was visiting with my elder sister in law over Thanksgiving who lives and grew up in the area. She says the brand was quite popular locally during the late 50's through to the early 70's.... of course she doesn't recall the earlier packaging but she does remember the dairy (later a feed mill) in Burgessville during the late 60's early 70's.... Guess we'll just have to find a early version with the company visible so we can do more research....
