So, what's the difference between USBC 2 #s 34 and 36? Is it just the shade of red?? thanks, MarkB

Looks like the gold is a different shade and the lettering in "Process" and "Reg. U. S Pat. Off." is a little bolder on 36. Just the variations that crop up in production of the same basic design by different canning companies (in this case Continental and Heekin). This design was also produced by American, looking pretty similar to 34.

Agree with Mr. Wolfe. If it's any consolation, the authors have no clue either! The best they could come up with is "ORANGER GOLD" and "YELLOWER GOLD"

@MarkB Looking at the online supplement there are obvious differences. Namely the tab and the canning companies.
The difference in canning companies very likely lead to the color difference as well.
