Absentee Ballots are available to vote for candidates for the BCCA Board of Directors for those BCCA members who cannot attend this year’s CANvention. There are five candidates running for four seats on the Board. Their terms will last from September 2014 through August 2016. The candidates are: Charles Smith #29978, Papillion, NE; Mark Rodgers #27935, Lakewood, CO; Dave Gausepohl #22473, Florence, KY; James Wolf #16033, Easton, MD; and Edward Hicks #32879, Frisco, TX. You may vote for a maximum of four candidates. No write-in votes are allowed on absentee ballots. To receive a ballot, you can either call Kevin Kious in the BCCA Office at 636-343-6486 or e-mail him at bcca@bcca.com. He will either e-mail or mail you the ballot (your choice). The ballot must be completed and signed with your BCCA number included. If you receive the ballot by e-mail, print it and fill it out. The ballot must be mailed to the BCCA Office at 747 Merus Ct., Fenton, MO 63026-2092. Ballots will only be accepted via mail since an original signature is required to authenticate the vote. Any ballots returned via e-mail or any mailed ballots that include votes for all five candidates or write-in votes will be rejected. If you will be attending CANvention 44, please do not request an absentee ballot. You will be able to vote for Board candidates at the CANvention General Business Meeting on Friday August 29. All absentee ballots must be received in the BCCA Office by August 15 to allow time for the votes to be tabulated prior to the CANvention.

Actually four of them are RB members:

Charles Smith (beercanexchange)
Mark Rodgers (Mark (expired))
James Wolf (JKW)
Edward Hicks (oldmoneytexan)

Good luck all (including Dave - the non RB member and Mr. Beer himself)

Thank you Robert! Is the the first time this has been done? If so the BCCA deserves credit for hearing our comments on the forum and taking action so everyone has a vote.

I see there are 5 candidates running for 4 positions. I would suggest, for the health of the club, for new ideas, and for everything that goes with "new blood" we vote for the non incumbents. A multiple term board member is a sure way to stagnation. It looks like we have two incumbents of the 5 running.

Of the two incumbents one has been a BCCA President, Vice president, secretary and board member so many times you have to get the roster out just to figure the totals up. I would have to ask myself before casting my vote, would a multiple time incumbent have anything new to offer in terms of ideas and improvement to help the membership?

Looks like a hell of a board right there! And Rusty Bunch members to boot!

Now mail your votes in.

Jim,

I actually tried to answer that in a different forum - I didn't know the official announcement would be out so soon.
kruegerbock wrote:An official announcement will be forthcoming - you will be able to request an absentee ballot to vote for board members from Kevin Kious in the BCCA Office.

When you asked why this wasn't permitted, I did a little research and asked some of the people in the know about it. It turns out that the use of Absentee ballots for board member voting has been authorized for years. Very few people asked for the ballots over the years, so I guess the BCCA didn't continue to publicize that this was permissable.

There are some restrictions, and you have to <gasp> *sign* and (snail) *mail* them back to the BCCA Office, but the bottom line is that you can request and use an absentee ballot.

Finally, it will be possible to change the rules to allow for this to be done *online*, just like the other voting, for 2015 and beyond. This could not be done for this year, because such changes require a 30-day notice to board members prior to being voted on at a board meeting, which would not have been possible for 2014.

Thanks for posting this Robert. I look forward to seeing y'all in Dallas. If I am lucky enough to be elected, I will make a point to visit as many shows next year as humanly possible to get to know as many of you guys as I can. I would like to know your thoughts on how to make the club better - what the club is doing right, and where the club can improve. We are all in this together.

Edward

OK, I received a Absentee Ballot from the BCCA home office. If you PM me with a email address, I will send it to you. If one of you guys is more techno savvy than I and you can some how post it here as a printable document please let me know.

Thanks,
Scott

I'll try this:
BCCA CANvention 44 Absentee Ballot 7-23-14.docx
(186.94 KiB) Downloaded 124 times
This is a MS Word document.

Make sure you read all the rules previously posted regarding this ballot.

There are several issues that will allow them to disqualify some ballots!

Here is the same document in PDF for those that don't have Microsoft Word.

I am curious why this has to be USPS mailed versus simply email? We have been using digital signatures for years on way more important items, and sure seems easier for someone to monitor a set of email with subject "BCCA Absentee Ballot" than the old pencil/paper process...

It's been said before...TECHNOLOGY IS NOT PART OF THEIR SKILL SET!

And thanks for the PDF, I should have thought of that!

Are we going to have to wait until the magazine is mailed in Oct to find out who the new board members are?

I was asked who was running for BCCA Board of Directors at our last Jersey Shore Chapter meeting, and gave them the answer that, subject to Board Approval, there will be seven candidates for the four slots this year. After Joe Germino (in absentia, actually Australia or Hawaii or somewhere) and I were soundly abused for only providing five last year, I was asked if you had to go to the GBM at CANvention to vote. The answer is no, so I figured I'd recycle this thread, subject to any modification which may have occurred since I reached escape velocity from the Board.

This provides an excellent chance for you to talk to the candidates and exercise your right to vote for the candidates that you believe will serve your collecting interests and help to move the club forward into the future. As stated earlier, Clayton Emery is an excellent candidate and active RB member. There are several other candidates who have supported the RB and the BCCA for years and who would relish the opportunity to serve the club as a board member. I will withhold from providing all of the candidates names, as they have yet to be approved by the board. A strong absentee ballot participation would show the strength of the RB and the hobby in general, as not everyone can afford to go to CANvention every year.

I copied and pasted my response from 2014 below:

An official announcement will be forthcoming - you will be able to request an absentee ballot to vote for board members from Kevin Kious in the BCCA Office.

@kruegerbock Al thanks for refreshing this thread. I'm in the process of reaching out to the BCCA leadership to get this process addressed and as Al indicated, this topic (electronic voting for BCCA Board Members) will be looked into and discussed at the BOD meeting at Zion Crossroads in July. Just like BCCA HOF voting, there are ways to ensure voting integrity and authentication is maintained. Board members candidates are not considered until the Swaparama show held in the St Louis area in early June so voting would occur later but but just prior to the Canvention to ensure those ballots are added to the final vote count at the General Business Meeting.
If your unsure you will make the Canvention but want to show your support to a candidate that you believe can represent your voice to the BCCA, this will afford you that opportunity.......

The BCCA BOD has decided to allow for electronic voting this year for BCCA BOD candidates......an email blast should go out sometime in the near future with the names, photos and bio's for this years candidates for the BOD. The voting window will be small (i.e. till mid-Aug) to ensure the voting will be done prior to Kevin departing for the Canvention. If you vote online you will not be able to vote at the BCCA General Business Meeting. This however should not be an excuse to miss the business meeting.
This will afford BCCA members a chance to be engaged in the voting for fellow officers in the club that can't make the Canvention.
