Old Postcard
This giant postcard was sent to Shelley's father in 1962. The creases and marks are from the postman who folded it to fit it through the mail slot. I believe it's from the 1959 race as I don't see any 60's cars, anyone see any? Love the safety walls uh?
Here's the back of it.
any one else have any early race photos?“May we never lack in friends, or in good beer to serve them”

Re: Old Postcard
Yep for sure that's the inaugural Daytona 500 in 1959 when they ran convertibles and hardtops together. I think that was the last year for convertibles in NASCAR.
That photo must have been taken right after they took the green flag. The #49 Bob Welborn car was on the pole for the race and is the blue Chevy in 2nd place in the photo. The car kind of cut off in the photo is a white T-Bird with the red wheels.......#64 driven by Fritz Wilson who ended up leading the first lap but blowing an engine.
Marvin Panch is back in like 6th place but started 2nd.
The pic below is of the 3 front cars before the race started.......
