Absolutely beautiful color.

Do you have any insight into how it was opened? It looks like a hole was drilled through both the top and bottom. Did a previous owner display cans by looping a wire through them?
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

I do not know the history of this can at all. It was definitely drilled on both ends, which is kinda dumb. But i guess thats better than the one guy who drilled the seam on his cans to open that I have seen in the past!!

Wait! It is not a lamp.
A number of months ago I had written a rough draft of an article I was going to submit to the BCCA magazine on this very subject. I went over all the theories already mentioned in this thread. Then came along the tournament of advertising with cans of beer we just concluded this spring and low and behold was the answer: a picture of an Esslinger clock with the party quiz cans attached as the pendulum!
Eureka!
Go check out--if it still available, the picture.
I had wondered about these holes for years, as I have one minty Party Quiz can myself.

I don't believe Esslinger would have wasted tax stamp lids on an advertising piece. The cans in the picture of the clock do not have that type of lid. Maybe a home made lamp where someone bought a six pack and opened the cans this way?
Always looking for West Virginia breweriana from Fesenmeier and Parkersburg.
12 oz. US flat tops.

Except for the Advertising forum. As far as I know, this is the only forum on this site in which voting is not an option.
