Tomahahk Zip top....... super can.........

#1

Post by Sea Monkey »

I have a guy that is trying to sell his Father in Law's collection of some very clean higher end cans. I think they are mostly NY and PA themed stuff. His Father in law new he was slowly dying when he started collecting fast and furious. He paid top dollar at the time. He has passed away now. He has trays and cans that he is trying to have me either buy them or consign them. This Tomahawk can is one he paid a lot for so I am putting it here to see if their is any interest and what you think it might be worth. Any feedback would be appreciated......

Yes, the can is for sale. PM any questions.

This is way cleaner than the one on Art's site. I think the guy paid like $650 for it about 4 years ago.........

The best way I know to determine true value is to place the can on eBay and see what it goes for. Mine is similar condition but bottom opened. I would say it's worth about $150, but who knows what it will fetch at auction.

$150 would be cheap. I haven't seen a nice one like this go for under $250 in the last year. I think most dealers would price that around $400. So on ebay, I'd guess at least $200 and up to $325. Just my opinion.

The one I had was Bottom Opened and alot cleaner than this one you show.I paied 150.00 about 5 yrs. ago.I someone paid 650.00 for this Can that was way too much.Just my opinion of course.

I know it is a tough Can so I would say 200.00 would be a good price for that one pictured.

I have already had SEVERAL PM's offering between $350 and $400. To be honest, I know very little about high end tab top prices. Maybe the guy that bought it originally doesn't either... Lol

I think that fact that it appears to be original helps the price. There are a lot of them out there that were never filled.

Since some people have already offered between $350-400 for the can, I think you should eBay it and let them battle it out. If it sells for over $400, you have done very well. It certainly looks like it is more valuable than I estimated above. I'm also interested in seeing what else he has available. Thanks Scott!

You should be jumping on one of those offers, it's a $200 can, max. I am so tired of the people who way overpay for a can, and then when it's time to sell, they only want what they have in it???!!!

I totally agree. It is not my can. I told him I would not buy it from him because he is " upside down" on this can. My thought is he might get $500 at best seeing that one sold on MR.Morians site for $550.......

. :smt005 please lets not kick the dead horse?? This is the new trend and direction of the fun cans that have been bought on auction?,,eway auctions are not the answer?dealers control the market ,,,folks have been paying too much for cans ?now this false value is showing up throughout the hobby?? :smt022 remember all cans will rust!

Dealers do not control the market. Collectables, like most everything else, are only worth what people will pay for them. It seems like this was a $150 can 5 years ago. Well guess what, now its a $350-$400 can. Quit bitching because can prices are going up. Be happy the hobby is growing. People are not 'overpaying' for cans. They are paying what they are willing to spend on them. This is obviously setting new price limits. If you don't like it, tough.

I think a lot of the complaining on this site is about the fact that the rarer tabs are growing quickly in price. Well, then they probably were undervalued for a long time and are just beginning to catch up. If you missed being at the front end of the curve, tough. I would recommend getting in now before you really miss out. 'Younger' collectors (which I would define as under 50) don't remember cones or flats, we do remember opening pull tabs on soda cans as children, so this is what many of us like.

Look at antique cars, many of those prices have been flat for a while. 60's muscle cars grew in value as those guys grew older and now the early 70's cars have been quickly rising. Soon, the 80's IROC Camaro prices will be obscene. People collect what they relate to as children. It happens. Again, I believe the hobby is expanding and I for one am quite pleased.

Well stated. Like I've said many times before before, everyone gripes about high prices when they're buying, never when they're selling.

Not that I know of but oldmoneytexan and barfly (There are a few others but I don't know their nicknames on this site.) would probably be able to get you started. I'm sure the dealers who post on here would be able to create one as well but their time might be more limited.

Edward,

You are so right, this site is full of hypocrites, chatuedebris is another example. When the wind tunnel find occurred chatuedebris picked up some of these cans for $20.00 each, did he sell them for $25.00, $30.00 hell no, he sold the white maier for $200.00. Again I don't knock anyone for making money on cans, I just knock the people who preach to me about how buyers are getting screwed by the high prices.

The beauty of this hobby and any hobby is....... You dont have to buy these items, you have a choice. If you don't like the price walk away. Wrestling nut is right on, a beer can is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. We have so many cans on our site that have been listed for years, are they over priced? Yes, so the smart buyers call me and make a offer, 99% of the time we will accept, if the offer is within reason. I just see so much jealousy it's sickening, someone gets a nice score there is always someone to say something negative. The Meister Brau score happened months ago, we have had numerous scores after this find, it's just not worth posting any of these finds on the RB site anymore, who needs the grief? Now don't get me started on onefineday. Sorry for the rant!

Don't be sorry Dan. What you have stated here, needs to be said every once in a while. I have a thirteen year old daughter and this is how she and her friends act quite often. I just didn't expect it on here when I joined. To be honest, I'm still glad that I joined. Tons of good guys with great information that they share freely and openly. Just a few who make it frustrating for the rest.

Keep on finding those cans so the rest of us have something to drool over.
