Some Spring Thaw notes/pictures

#1

Post by Randy Karasek »

First some important notes in priority order:
  • I flew 6 hours from west coast to enjoy four days away from the real world, not roving reporter
  • Focus is visiting with some good friends I don't get to see often
  • Hope to pick up some beer cans for my collection
  • My photo skills are average, many of my pictures with my IPhone are crap
  • I have detailed pictures of every beer can and notes as to who has for sale, condition, cost, and details high resolution pictures if any questions...
As for the show, first impressions pulling into the parking lot many magnitudes better than the February show I skipped to come here. Motel staff absolutely wonderful, lobby professional, clean, no smells, beautiful. All rooms I have seen are clean, no mold, no urine stains, no ... The two show locales don't even compare. Hands down this is a great location for a beer can show. I stopped by the Grand Ball Room for the show on Saturday and the two rooms are going to be equivalent to number of tables at Dallas Canvention. And this is only Thursday night, show will pick up full force Friday/Saturday.

All rooms have nice size fridge and microwave so a quick grocery trip required:
IMG_0391.JPG
Weather a bit on the colder side (mid-40's) but expected to be a very nice weekend. Next to motel is a softball field and an organized kick ball event! Something like 8 teams under lights in rain! Asked Mr Aho if he was interested in organizing a RB kick ball team but his reply not fit for posting. He probably couldn't see the big red ball anyway...
IMG_0392.JPG
IMG_0393.JPG
Next handful of pictures main reason to attend shows, visiting with collecting friends:
IMG_0395.JPG
Josh, Chris and Bill. Yes, Josh arrived east coast on Wednesday on schedule! Really enjoy his humor!!! The non-political correct commentary taking place in BeerCanMan Gordon's room definitely not fit to print anywhere...
IMG_0403.JPG
Steve and some crazy talking guy from Michigan's UP.
IMG_0406.JPG
Tom and his stylish goatee. Almost didn't recognize him sitting at different table at breakfast this morning.
IMG_0409.JPG
Nice group picture. Gary, Mr Dave Lang, and Dan. Apologizes for not remembering the ladies names...

Some random shots. Again, poor quality from my IPhone, high resolution digital still processing. If you have any questions about who's items, condition, cost, etc, I am pretty busy now but hit me up on April 31 and I will be sure to reply...

This is just a small sampling. Nice large block of rooms all next to each other just collectors. Just first day and had chance to chat with a good number of friends. We will take a group RB picture Friday at the RB chapter meeting. I will try to take some more pics on Friday, and some of the actual show on Saturday. From what I have seen/heard, very well attended and only Thursday, RB raffle and punch board going well, and lots and lots of familiar faces.

Thanks for the pics Randy! Looks like the cast of characters are in place now, and the show will be legendary! As I get ready to start work, it's nice to know that there are many who get to play beer cans for a few days! Looks like some seldom seen cans have already found new homes! Have fun my friends! :smt006

First; Thanx for the pictures!

Second; Randy, we're all getting older but shame on you for forgetting the names of the ladies. Sheeese!!!!!

Third; The commentary Randy has provided is in my opinion, spot on. I've been to both shows- Nuff Sed!

Fourth; My son, Wrestle Nut and I, will be at the show early Saturday morning and I'll be picking up my can of the show from a new friend I'll be meeting there for the first time.

Last; My wife and I had the privilege of hosting "Old Money Texan" who was gracious enough to stop by to see my collection [obsession] on his way to the show, if you see him there don't believe a thing he says about me.

Great People- Great Times- Terrific Hobby- It's All Good!!!!!! Get involved/stay involved.

Thanks for the pictures and information. I would have loved to have been at this show but I <insert your favorite excuse here>. Maybe it will work out for me next year. In the meantime, I have the upcoming Patrick Henry show in Kalamazoo to look forward to.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

2023 Shows Attended

* Michigan Chapter Winterfest, January 14, Frankenmuth Michigan
* Cabin Fever Reliever, February 24, Mishawaka Indiana
* Buckeye, March 11, Toledo Ohio
* SummerSwap, July 21 & 22, Frankenmuth Michigan

I'm aware that somebody already posted almost the same photo, but

1) the new T-shirt colors are cool.

2) Steve Potter did a nice job bringing this sign back to life. And it was born to hang in the Rusty Bunch chapter's hospitality room.

My pictures for Friday. Great night sleep and fun working the RB table this morning. Heck, only issue for me so far was self-inflicted with me leaving my room key sitting next to computer. The room-to-room turnout has been very, very good. Either room is open or there is name listed and that person usually seen walking around looking themselves. Last I heard Friday night all rooms sold out. My opinion a great show venue, well organized, and RB should feel very satisfied being added as a sponsor.

IMG_0412.JPG
Couple outside pictures. All rooms face outside, and all rooms have nice glass pane for outside viewing. All walking fully covered so no issues with any rain.

Next round of pictures includes some of the characters which make this a fun hobby. Again, poor pictures but you might be able to make out some of the faces. Very good turnout, and sounds like entire hotel will be sold out tonight (Friday).

FYI. I have had a couple questions regarding the DuBois crowntainers. These are CanDog Tom Chegash. All dumpers, mix of condition, some small bubbles and mix of good face, back so-so. I think some pretty solid that would be great shelf cans. Sounds as if asking $15-20 depending on condition. Please contact Tom for details.

Just a few pictures for Friday night from the RB chapter meeting. Important item is that both Nan Wick and Chris Taylor have been inducted into the RB Hall of Fame. Both are absolutely very deserving members, and only reason some of us stopped "bit..ing" weeks ago was the board agreed to the many comments by their members that both should be inducted this year.

Congratulations to both Nan and Chris

Pictures from the RB chapter meeting. I wish I would have captured one with Aho in straight jacket and Hannibal Lector mask to get him to settle down, but the room was laughing too hard... or not... There was no beer available at the meeting so time was of the essence as to prevent dehydration. The meeting lasted just under 30 minutes.
IMG_0458.JPG
IMG_0459.JPG
Pictures of the trade floor. Not many beer cans at the moment since the floor doesn't open until 7:00am Saturday, with people allowed to setup later tonight (I believe Friday 8pm). This is the main room. There is another fair size room right across from this that still had chairs set up for RB meeting, was in process of being taken down and tables setup before time to run off for pizza...

Since only looking for a specific person, recommend using the "View Online -> Current Roster", Ctrl-F to perform find, and search for Chegash. Sorry guys, there are so many open rooms and people moving around that I choose to decline to be middle man. I was hoping people would get the sarcasm in my first post that I had a detailed list of items/prices of every room. Also, I am flying back to CA Sunday with very limited space and can't proxy purchase cans, flight back, and then ship from home.
