believe they called them Match Safe in 1800's early 1900's. Found this rare Gem while trying to dig for bottles in Detroit. LEON.

Very Awesome find Leon!

You're doing better finding beer stuff in privies than going out looking for beer cans.

@Leon Great find....I did a quick search on newspapers.com with the thought of "Is it Rhinegold (as spelled on the item) or Rheingold?". Surprisingly enough there are plenty of ads with it spelled both ways.

Thanks for the ads. I think both spellings are correct because I've seen old pre pro labels that have it spelled both ways. I know there is at least one maybe 2 different pre pro trays but don't remember how they were spelled on the trays. LEON.

Interesting, I'm a little rusty (pun intended) on my memmory but I don't think they ever sold enough stock to open the newer brewery they were trying to build. LEON.

Here's a Pic of the back of the Match Safe. Notice the rough back for striking your Matches. If this thing was mint I would not be surprised if it would get $500+. BUT, In this rough shape I'm guessing probably less then $100. LEON.

P.S. That big scratch in the back is from my shovel hitting it, I thought it was just a clump of dirt until I noticed it was to evenly shaped for dirt.

It would have been cool if there were some coins stashed inside of it.

I have found compacts from the early 1900's that had pennies in them.

@Leon There are ads or articles through at least 1936 confirming that there was some activity.....
