Portland Canvention Hotel

#1

Post by Cap-Sealed »

I saw on FB that the contracted room rate for the hotel has been sold out. Anyone know how many rooms that was? Pretty sure there is about 300+ rooms total.

Thx Ed

Not sure, but it's definitely a great sign to have a sold out Canvention hotel. Looking forward to it!

I don't know if more rooms will be released or the hotel is sold out entirely for the show. If it is sold out, there is an Oxford Suites right across the street within easy walking distance. Either way, if you don't have a reservation it's time to make one.

All,
Yes, the contract rate rooms are sold out, for right now. The CANvention committee is working on getting more rooms for our block at the contract rate. No word as of today. We have also reached out for a block of rooms at the Oxford Suites at a negotiated rate. I do not have that rate yet. There are rooms at the Red Lion, but they are at the regular rate of somewhere around $190.00/night. I will post information as soon as I get it from Beer Dave.
Advanced registration expires on 8/19. The BCCAwebsite has all of the up to date details as Charlie Smith is all over it. Due to the size of the trade floor and local fire codes, we can only offer 1 6ft table per registered member.
Any questions, post them here and I will get you a response as quick as I can.

Fiddle guy,
We did not block any rooms at the Oxford Suites during our January planning visit as we did not expect to sell out our block at the Red Lion 2 months before the start of CANvention. I do not know how many room nights they can offer us at any price.
We don't block rooms, we contract for number of room nights. It seems like we blocked somewhere around 900 room nights with options to add more rooms, we excercised our additional room night options and have sold that out. We are now going back to hotel management and see what they have left that are not already booked to non-BCCA guests.
Does that answer your question?

The one table thing is on the registration form. After we did the Fire Marshall dance, our only option to offer as many collectors tables as possible was to limit it to one per registered member. Over a 1/3 are gone and July is the month where we get the most registrations.

Mark...maybe a dumb question but want to ask......if we are a registered member and don't plan on needing a table does that offer one up to somebody else??

Keith,
Yes, I'm in the same situation. I am a registered member, but elected not to rent a trade table.

Being local I have a lot of stuff I'd like to put out for sale or trade. In addition to my regular items, I purchased a collection awhile back with quite a few cans. Being limited to only one table is definitely a problem. I understand there is a limited amount of tables but hope that if not all are reserved that the option to purchase more would be possible at some point. As it stands now, I'm going to have 15 totes of cans available for room to room and 3-4 on the trade floor. I also have signs, bottles and other items I'd like to try and move.

I'm sure there are other collectors within driving distance in a similar situation.

Yes there are. I will be relying on room to room for more selling space.

Being local as well, I was planning on moving 40 years of collecting. My signs, trays, a couple of thousand cans, other junk etc. ....that definately is not going to fit on a 6 ft table. Can i build shelfing for my table? Can I put stuff under it?

Yes, any tables not sold in pre-registration will be sold at the door when registration opens on Thursday morning, not before. Also, if there are any cancellations with tables, we will make them available. I do anticipate all of the tables being sold ahead of coming on site. Having a display system on top of your table and below your tables is acceptable. Please make it safe an sturdy.
The hotel only has 4 floors, so room-to-room is going to be much more active than at past CANventions, especially if we have nearly all of the rooms on the property. We will have the usual poster board to place flyers on to promote the stuff in your room.

At our CBA CAnV PDX 46 meeting last night, as of June 30th, there are over 200 registered for this show (not sure how that effects the room count); home tours are set and we are finishing up some odds and ends.

I plan on doing a lot of room to room - even after the trade floor closes on Thru, Fri and Saturday (check out on Sunday) I also have lots of stuff at bargain prices; cans, tap handles, coasters, signs, odds and ends, etc

Less than 2 months way - see you all then!

I don't need a table, but I wouldn't mind getting a table for someone else.

Problem is not sure where it would be assigned. Doesn't do much good to
have two different tables in two different locations, unless that appeals
to anyone. I haven't registered yet

Hi all, I drove up today from San Jose and should arrive in Portland tomorrow, spending the night at Grant's Pass since I got a late start. I do not have a table so I only brought a few cans. I decided to take some shelf cans and put them in a display case. In my experience none of my traders ever move at shows so I pulled some shelf cans off the shelf at Watsonville last year and actually moved a few in hopes that the same strategy will work at Portland.

Looking forward to the show and all the fun that comes with it. Looking forward to room to room and good beers.

Cheers,

-Chris

Folks,
We contracted for right around 900 room nights, there are close to 1200 room nights booked. Peak night is Thursday 266 rooms booked that night. Leaving BWI now, should be at the hotel by 1430. See all of you there!
