Hi Jim -
This is a Beer Stein which I believe is from the Kanawha Brewing Company in Charleston, West Virginia.
Any information or other items from this brewery that you may know of?

Re: Kanawha Brewing Company
You have the fifth one of these mugs I now of, three with lids. But, yours looks brown in the photo. Every other one I've seen was dark blues, with a brown rib around the bottom. So, please clarify if it's the mug or the photography!
KBC stuff (like anything W Va pre-pro) is tough to find. They were in business from 1907 until W Va passed prohibition in 1914. The only building still standing is their old stables, on Bullit St across from Fazio's restaurant.
I have four labels from there.
Capital Special Brew
German Style COG (Cream of Grain)
Kanawha Chief Export Beer
Kanawha Chief Beer
The labels are all unique (to my knowledge) except the COG, of which two are known. Both COGs surfaced in the last couple years.
I also have a photo dated 1964, showing the brewery buildings before the interstate took them out, as well as a couple embossed glass bottles.
You can see the labels in Bob Kay's book, and the COG on his website.
Let me know about the color of that mug!

Re: Kanawha Brewing Company
The color is all brown...no blue.
Do you have any pictures of the blue/brown mugs and labels?
Interesting info...thanks again.
