March Madness

#1

Post by Brent Gesland »

Well it's the greatest show in March if you are basketball fan...So I have a question who knows BB better than me :smt018

OK... kidding of course on my knowledge but what do you guys think about a Rusty Bunch bracket . Yahoo has a great site and all you do is pick your brackets on who wins or lose...My thoughts were to throw in $5 or $10 bucks per RB member and let the winner and 2nd place get some cash to buy a beer can at his next beer can show!

This could be fun or no money and just bragging rights!...Would like to hear any coments!

CBSSports.com also offers free bracket software. And it does all the work for you. Entrants enter their own picks and the software calculates point totals and total possible points for each entrant.

Last couple years I have used free Fox Sports, their site allows creation of private groups, and I just created a private group named "Rusty Bunch". If someone else wants to coordinate $$$ or cans as prizes I will participate, but the following as of now is just for "bragging rights". To join:

http://msn.foxsports.com/fantasy/colleg ... ll/tourney
  • Create a Fox Sports login id (free, just need valid email address confirmed)
  • Once logged in, create a bracket. Put your RB handle somewhere in the bracket name
  • Once you have an empty bracket created choose to join a group
Our private group name is "Rusty Bunch" and the password is "Rusty Cans" (please note mixed case and blank space in both). You can go ahead and create your empty bracket entries now and have up until before play in game to choose teams and/or edit your picks. Once that first tip off takes place all brackets are locked.

Note that you may have TWO brackets under your name in the "Rusty Bunch" group. I have one for Big Ten dominate, and the other more realistic!

Again, all free, and the Fox site keeps track of results and group standings automatically. Also make sure to join in Warren Buffets 1 Billion perfect bracket game. Odds are terrible but again all free.

If you would prefer an email with details and where you can just click to join the Rusty Bunch NCAA Challenge group, drop me a PM with your email address and I can send direct invite. Otherwise, the above link and group = "Rusty Bunch" and password = "Rusty Cans" should be enough to join. Again, no cost.

Early Thursday morning (say 8am EST) next week, March 20. Looking at the site today it looks like the fill in brackets won't include those two "play in" games on Tuesday. You can register now which will create an "empty bracket" which won't be filled with team names until after this Sunday's selection committee. I would recommend signup and take care of that part now, and between Sunday night and Thursday morning early March 20 edit your bracket and make your selections.

There is option of two brackets for the same group so make sure to create two of them. My opinion "winner take all" unless we get 20-30 people then maybe a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Since it costs nothing to join, we can discuss any potential prizes whenever.

Also there is ability for "group messages" so trash talk can be limited to just those competing, or attempting to do so!!!

Ok, you have your "bad picks" entry. Reminder though you are allowed two different brackets so maybe you should enter a second bracket that at least has a "slim to none" chance of winning! :smt016

Used Bill Murray's line from Caddyshack for bracket #2. A Cinderella Story.

Don't worry Keith, 98% of people filling out NCAA brackets don't know either, and the other 2% are just educated guesses!!! Still, the NCAA college basketball tournament probably consumes (some say wastes) the most work hours viewing sports information...

Just read an article saying there are over 50 Aussies playing in College Basketball in the USA. I will have to look some of them up to help me with my selections!!

I like how you think Mr Keith! Would be too funny for first time perfect NCAA bracket winning $1 BILLION dollars based on the team's cheerleaders! Even if you don't win, worth a couple looks (or more).
