It's my understanding that bottlers used a repeating pattern on the wartime caps to eliminate waste if there was a mistrike. Can anyone confirm this? Was this mandatory or voluntary? There was quite a bit of variety on the Coca Cola and 7up versions, anyone know why?

Re: World War II Crowns
I'm not certain if it was mandatory versus a good business practice to create less waste in a sheet of crowns during the war years. Blatz, Pabst and Anheuser Busch also did this. Both Blatz and Pabst had some varieties also (different color of the font or color of background).
