Phoenix Conetop
Sometime in the distant past (1970's?) a group of collectors went into the hospitality room in the old brewery in Bay City and discovered a case of Phoenix cone tops apparently still welded together as an advertising display.
The exact number found and who made the discovery seems to have been lost to memory. I picked up my example from beercansplus about a month ago....not sure if it came from that find originally or is a new discovery but the vast majority of examples out there seem to date back to the Hospitality Room discovery.
A good mystery!

I have been actively collecting for 40 years and I had never heard this story. Beautiful can!

Re: Phoenix Conetop
Great can. I've heard same story, but never got the complete details on the find. Maybe Randy or Chris can fill us in on them?

I think I know who has the Pyramid & I heard at one time the display showed up at Frankenmuth but some others say they never seen it there. LEON.
P.S. I think I know where your Phoenix came from & don't think it came from the Pyramid find.

Re: Phoenix Conetop
One was/is for sale in New Orleans. Knowing the story I asked if the can had welds makes on the rims. It did - obviously from the find. The crown on the can appears scorched. He wanted the moon - this was a year ago and most brokers where in the know.

Re: Phoenix Conetop
Info I have regarding the Phoenix cone top is what I have read (three articles attached), that I have owned one which had marks around the top/bottom rims that would be consistent with pyramid solder marks, there are definitely more than 10 of these cans on-grade seeing at least 3-4 without any indication of solder, comes in both gold and silver cone (same canning code, links to both below), a great looking beer can and highly desirable, and examples definitely able to be acquired if you have the $$$.Leon wrote:Maybe those other 2 guys you mention can share.Flat_Top wrote:Top secret info or can you share?Leon wrote:I think I know who has the Pyramid & I heard at one time the display showed up at Frankenmuth but some others say they never seen it there. As for Leon's first hand information or what he knows, I can't fathom a guess...

Re: Phoenix Conetop
Interesting Articles. Thanks. If beercansplus got your can from Keith Niel then I could tell you alot about it. LEON.

Who had it before Mike? I don't think Mike had it very long. Does yours have any sign of solder on rims? LEON.

Re: Phoenix Conetop
Rims are pretty clean....does have a small area where it looks like a possible solder mark??
Approximately at where the white and black border meet.

Re: Phoenix Conetop
Maybe beercanplus sold it to Mike. Then Mike sold his cans to Gene. Then Gene has beercansplus selling his cans, maybe it's the same can they already sold before. But only beercansplus would know for sure. LEON.

Phoenix Conetop
The one article states sold in 1944. Must be 1940 at the latest.
"Although the cans will be of no value after opened, their cost is expected to be small..." Iowa: June 22, 1935
Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?
