I saw something on the old forum about a find of offgrade Time cones... dunno if that fits the topic? Wish i had one!

There was a large find of Time cones from a small town west of Fort Worth around 1985. A couple of non-collectors found hundreds of them. Some of them were pretty nice, many horrible, but all had varying degrees of humidity on them and the guys who found them gave them a bath in some sort of thick shellac. Every Time cone out there except for a small handful (maybe 10?) came from this find.

They are usually available at the large shows (there were a few at Canvention this year) and show up from "Time to Time" on eBay. Here is a photo of a typical "find" can and one not from the find that appeared on eBay last year.

The following is from older Rustlings information in letter from Michael Lewandowski (small blurb about Time cones highlighted with red box). I posted the entire page because of interesting comment at end of the first paragraph, and pictures at the bottom of some early Rusty Bunch members.

I saw them when they were first shown for sale. There were a lot more than 85. I would say it was closer to 150 - 200.

I think I bought about 30 of them from the same guy who I got the Schlitz collection from (I think near Longview TX). Most looked very similar to Longhorn Mike's photo above. Lacquered and missing plenty of red/gold. Towards the end I was letting them go for $5-10 each. Saw an ongrade example when at Canvention in KC ... an absolute thing of beauty.

It looks like the can from the "find" is a bulb top? The non find can is a standard hi pro.

Looks like the wrong top was painted and placed on the non-find time. Bjorn
